Lmao, thank the heavens for satire.

Remember a few years ago when a teenager took an interstate trip to play cop and threaten black people with a gun?

And then he ended up killing some people and cried a lot in the trial ("I'm the victim" tears, not "I regret murdering those guys" tears)

And he became a conservative star.

Satire doesn't stand a chance against reality

Nah man, that kid just intuitively knew that the one guy he shot was a pedophile which is why he cannot possibly be criticized.

WHAT'S HIS NA... oh, the Onion, right. Practically the only "real" news source left, even if a little fuzzy on the details:-).

The Onion will not give you facts, but it will give you the truth

[-] OpenStars@startrek.website 5 points 9 months ago

Plus often it makes you cry:-) 😢 😂

Looks like the Republicans found their clap back to Taylor Swift's Superbowl endorsement.

Did the writers go on strike? Today was the deadline.

[-] ZeroCool@slrpnk.net 16 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

I’m not aware of any last minute deal but their contract expires at midnight so the strike wouldn’t technically begin until tomorrow, February 1st. If I recall correctly, picketing will take place in NYC, LA, and Chicago.

UPDATE: The Onion’s Unionized Staff Reaches Tentative Deal With G/O Media Hours Before Strike Deadline

Are they? Good luck and god-speed to them. The publishers of these companies are awful. I wouldn't be surprised if they try to just get college students to generate content using LLMs for "exposure".

These people are the worst, and I fear that they don't care if their content is garbage. But I hope that if the writers don't get a fair deal, they make a new site or something.

Looks like they reached a deal a few hours ago. Good for them. Strikes are important but they fucking suck on all sides.

[-] themoken@startrek.website 5 points 9 months ago

Austin, TX? Nailed it. Both because we're rife with fascists and because we will make them cry.

[-] andrewrgross@slrpnk.net 4 points 9 months ago

eh... this is kind of weak for the Onion.

This feels like Babylon Bee-level satire.

It's not a bad concept, it's just that it's more of a starting idea. It's not really formatted effectively as a parody news article.

And he's singing "...I want to push you around!..."
