He sleeps during the day because Bruce Wayne is a notorious playboy.

"Crime doesn't sleep, so neither do I." ~Batman hallucinating a conversation with the Joker due to sleep deprivation

Turns out the city doesn't have flamboyantly dressed supervillains at all. Batman is just running around Gotham, sleep deprived as hell, grabbing confused commuters by the shoulders and accusing them of being The Penguin.

Being Bruce Wayne doesn't take much time at all. Being a capital landlord just means barking a few orders and paying other people to actually work.

A boardroom meeting here, a fancy party there.

This was portrayed very well in the Nolan trilogy.

If anything he's Batman or training/prepping to be batman 12+ hours a day, sleeping 6-8 or maintaining muscle would be next to impossible(if he is in fact supposed to be human), and the rest to being a billionaire CEO.

[-] Donkter@lemmy.world 14 points 11 months ago

I think in-cannon he's very reclusive. Only appearing for dinner parties and public announcements etc.

[-] discostjohn@programming.dev 2 points 11 months ago

Totally. Alfred and Dick are always encouraging him to get out more as Bruce Wayne to help sell the playboy facade, but he just doesn't have time for it.

I mean, some of us would sleep at sunrise and wake up at like 1pm if given the chance. I don't think anyone would bat an eye if Bruce Wayne did it too

[-] Laticauda@lemmy.ca 28 points 11 months ago

He only has to be a billionaire playboy for a few hours then he can pretend to get blackout drunk at a party or something and sleep for the rest of the day.

My friend tried this thing where you nap for 20 minutes every 4 hours or so.

They managed to get into a good rhythm with it for a while.

They stopped because they missed sleep and it was weird as fuck being awake all the time.

They had an amazing ability to fall asleep almost instantly so I imagine that made it much easier.

[-] HeyJoe@lemmy.world 17 points 11 months ago

That's only 2 hours of sleep a day, idk how this could work longer than a couple of days before crashing.

[-] RedditRefugee69@lemmy.world 14 points 11 months ago

They actually studied this in the Cold War for 24 hour bomber pilot missions. 4 hrs on, 2 hrs sleep was their answer. Also meth

[-] supamanc@lemmy.world 12 points 11 months ago

The theory is that after a couple of days of you short circuit the natural sleep cycle, to go into REM sleep instantly when you sleep. As we only experience about 2 hrs of REM sleep per night, you get all of the sleep you need in these 15-20 min bursts, every 4 hrs or so. Think how when you're really tired, a little nap will fully refresh you for a few hrs., but sleep a little longer, and your fucked!

Sleep deprivation will do that.

[-] TrippyFocus@lemmy.ml 9 points 11 months ago

It’s called the Everyman/uberman sleep cycle depending on how extreme you go and it’s pretty interesting. Tried the Everyman for awhile and it was nice but if you get sick or otherwise mess it up it you basically have to restart the whole process. Also tough to do if you’re not single, once I met my wife I fully gave it up.

[-] agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works 8 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Yup. Only works if you can hit your nap times every time without fail. A single missed nap will completely ruin everything. Not a lot of people have lives/jobs conducive to naps every 4 hours on the dot.

No, no, no, no. This is evolutionary. I been reading this book on Leonardo da Vinci. See, that means 'from Vinci'.

[-] CaptainBlagbird@lemmy.world 19 points 11 months ago

Me: "haha, yeah sleep is important"

Also me: Not sleeping but consuming memes in the middle of the night about a guy not sleeping because he thinks of a fictional guy not sleeping in order to fight crime.

[-] Maultasche@lemmy.world 12 points 11 months ago

Robert Pattinson's Bruce Wayne looks like he doesn't.

[-] gac11@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

It's because he's a vampire

[-] MNByChoice@midwest.social 8 points 11 months ago

I know nothing of fighting crime. I expect it is long periods of boredom, with short and intense action. At some point, except at the conclusion of something, crime is nearly nothing at 4 AM. Sleep to noon, then get going. Alfred and any assistants can have decisions lined up for him.

I bet he does not cook, do laundry, or clean.

Everyone knows how taxing it is to have more money than god.

[-] davidaprice@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

According to the Sam Hamm/Denys Cowan story from way back when, he’s able to get all the rest he needs in, like, 40 minutes.
