Good effort by Robe Seafood and Takeaway. Crispy and light batter, excellent chips. Just the thing on a long, solo road trip.

Doies good effort mean something different in Australia? In the US that would translate as "nice try, but not great."

I ask because those look amazing, just need some vinegar

Good effort = They performed well.

I swear Robe in SA is one of those places where it's a 1 hour drive to the next town, across the most arid coast you could imagine. I've only been in the area once.

I might be mistaken, but them chips look like they've got no vinegar on them?

Chicken Salt.

Mind you though, looking at this, I don't see much of any Chicken Salt. Who asks for chips without chicken Salt? And if he didn't ask, I thought chicken Salt came standard in every store that wasn't a hipster main with herbed chips, especially in a country town like robe.

Whoa. You mean I can get Chicken in a Biskit without the Biskit??

[-] MadBob@feddit.nl 1 points 2 years ago

I've never heard of it. Do you mean red salt, or MSG?

[-] Da_Boom@iusearchlinux.fyi 1 points 2 years ago

No, I mean the Aussie staple seasoning for any chip shop. It's called "Chicken Salt"

Although MSG is often one of the ingredients in it.

Needs a fried dimmy to top it off

We have it in South Africa too

Why isn't this wrapped in newspaper? Oh wait, I guess newspapers barely exist any more :(

[-] CopernicusQwark@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago

Why on earth would you want fish and chips in actual newspaper? I hate the idea of getting that ink on my food.

Every fish and chip shop I've been to either does the boxes shown or butcher's paper.

“I’ll have a kombucha.”

“Beer it is.”

“No, kom-bu-cha.”

“Be-er?”

“K, o…”

“B, e…”

Looks amazing! One question: is that pronounced robe or robe?
