That we have the technology to make a paper towel dispenser that works well, and that we don't do that very much because it's cheaper to make one that works poorly, are not incompatible.

When we get mass market flying cars, we'll get incredibly shitty flying cars that crash all the time, about a week later.

Or people are putting in too low quality of paper into the machine. The paper has to be strong enough to active the mechanism, they already say two hands since one usually rips before being able to pull it down.

[-] EmoBean@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

"We are highly aware that the springs in our machine are too strong, thus causing disfunction of the machine. We will not change our design. We already paid for 300.000 springs, so fuck you, buy better paper."

[-] schmidtster@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

And then the weaker springs don’t have the force required to cut paper that is adequate to dry your hands.

[-] shasta@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago

They could actually put a blade in it to cut the paper like scissors

[-] schmidtster@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

What do you think the springs are activating?

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 16 points 2 years ago

Thank god we don't have flying cars. Thousands of cars in the air... any of them could have engine trouble at any time...

Or crash into you because of "pedal error" ! I learnt yesterday there are 16000 yearly accident in the USA from "pedal error". WTAF ?!

[-] RedAggroBest@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

First, what defines pedal error? Also 16k out of 6 million is basically a non-factor

[-] synapse1278@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, pedal error car accidents are defined as "accidents caused by unintentional acceleration or braking due to driver error." These types of accidents can result in injuries, property damage, and even fatalities.

16k drivers who don't have the proper skills to control their vehicules, this sounds like 16k too much to me, doesn't matter the total number of drivers. It's like drunk drivers, 1 fatality is already too much.

[-] RedAggroBest@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

It's 6 million accidents, not drivers, more than that guaranteed

Welcome to the future. Nothing works now! :D

[-] rosymind@leminal.space 5 points 2 years ago

This is not the future I envisioned as a kid

[-] pastermil@sh.itjust.works 13 points 2 years ago

On the other hand, check out this cool office document editor you'd have to pay yearly for.

Also, there's this spying technology that comes with every new car. What are we spying? Well, you.

[-] Octopus1348@lemy.lol 3 points 2 years ago

On the other hand

P-unintended?

[-] pastermil@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 years ago

Lmao, that's a good one!

Didn't even realize that.

[-] lapommedeterre@lemmy.world 12 points 2 years ago

After washing, shake your hands a bit, then dry.

[-] Cap@kbin.social 11 points 2 years ago

When I see one of these I immediately go for my pants. I'd rather have a damp thigh for 10 minutes than deal with this thing.

[-] PatFussy@lemm.ee 8 points 2 years ago

Thats where the peepee poopoo is stored though 😩

[-] variants@possumpat.io 1 points 2 years ago

You're an animal haha just shake the excess water into the sink before you reach for the towel

[-] ech@lemm.ee 6 points 2 years ago

Use more of your hand to grab more of the towel, and pull with a steady pressure instead of one hard yank.

[-] 2piradians@lemmy.world 7 points 2 years ago

The trouble is, the amount of steady pressure to apply varies inversely proportionate to the amount of towel left on the roll. So it's a guessing game for most people as to how hard to pull.

[-] ech@lemm.ee 1 points 2 years ago

That's true, but the more surface area you're interacting with, the less that part will matter. Unless it's super jammed up, it should come out.

Hand drying options are actually much better than they were 20-30 years ago. Even the electric ones are pretty great now. 30 years ago it would be one of those electric ones with the round button that feels like someone blowing on your hands through a straw, or at the gas station it would be one continuous loop of thick blue cloth.

It's a heli-cop-car

In doing research on the sustainability of the textile sector, I came across this company that makes a reusable towel dispenser incorporating cloth as opposed to paper. They do business with the big wigs in textiles, most notably Lenzing (makers of TENCEL), so it seems legit.

And if this company does it, I'd wager that others do too.

Imagine if we had this in all countries as opposed to paper towels. Maybe cloth towels + hand dryers for the best of both worlds.

Edit: better link with video showing operation & maintenance.

[-] Anticorp@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Those things have been around forever. They were really common in gas station bathrooms when I was a kid.

The directions on all of these are wrong! I find it much less likely to tear when using on hand in the center of the bottom edge.
