Okay. Having a Grand Prix in Baku is fine. But having a prize-giving event in Baku is bad. Whatever you say Hamilton. 🤡

This seems perfectly consistent with his stance of keeping F1 going as a global sport while minimising environmental impact (e.g.: due to travel, which is what he explicitly has issues with in the quote). What's worth a clown emoji here?

What's worth a clown emoji here?

It's usually pretty handy for identifying a comment written by a child

How is going to Paris is better for environmental impact than Baku? But to be fair, we don't know what type of private jet he uses.

Bro, we talking about seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. I think he's worth it.

Because most teams, the drivers, the engineers, the support staff, and dare I say the press that cover this are closer geographically to Paris than Baku.

That's a pretty simple observation.

Also aren't the FIA offices in Paris?

[-] Wimopy@feddit.uk 16 points 9 months ago

That's what Lewis mentioned specifically as well (emphasis mine):

I don’t feel a particular way. Whilst I really like Baku, it’s really a beautiful place, questions in my mind of whether the FIA is really actually thinking about sustainability because so many people flew out here and the FIA is in Paris and it just would have been easier to stay there.

And many drivers live in Monaco

Right, they could’ve just trained to Paris. They probably wouldn’t, but they could

[-] Chreutz@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

Yeah, and so could a lot of the teams from the UK. The Train of Great Speed would be the logical choice to get people from there to Paris.

They should just mail the trophy. Max will just place his trophy on a mini fridge anyway.

[-] woelkchen@lemmy.world 13 points 9 months ago

Hamilton lives in the USA and flies in his private jet. The few extra kilometers don't weigh that hard when you're on a transatlantic flight for yourself anyway.

Well, next year it will be at Rwanda

[-] itsathursday@lemmy.world 2 points 9 months ago

👏 Well 👏 Done 👏 Baku 👏

They could take a bus from Monaco :)
