TLDR 🤖

Nigel Farage, former leader of the UK Independence Party and Brexiteer, had his bank account at Coutts, a private bank for the wealthy, closed due to not meeting the required financial threshold. Farage suggested the closure was politically motivated. However, insiders familiar with the situation stated it was a commercial decision. Coutts requires customers to borrow or invest at least £1m, or hold £3m in savings. Farage was offered a standard account at NatWest, the owner of Coutts, but disputes the timing of this offer. He also reported that attempts to open accounts with other banks were unsuccessful, citing his status as a "Politically Exposed Person" (PEP) as the reason for rejections. The exact cause of the Coutts account closure remains a point of contention between Farage and the banks.

A. No one cares
B. Stop making him visible.
C. May he be forgotten by history.
What a horrible little weasel he was. (he's still alive, I'm just happy we don't hear about him anymore.

Amazing what happens when Russia turns off the money taps. Of course, he wanted to portray it as political when in reality it’s because he no longer has a seat at the toff table due to dwindling coffers. Let him slide further into irrelevance and desperation. Couldn’t happen to a nicer man.

Got to love this comment from him in the report:

"He said that losing his bank account was the equivalent of being a "non-person" and that the decision may "fundamentally affect my future career and whether I can even go on staying living here in this country"

Where is he going to go? He is very much responsible for removing the rights of the UK citizens to reside in the other European member states with his lies and retoric. Most dont have the connections or resources to flee elsewhere and so this twat should be forced to stay in a housing estate in a deprived town centre and live with his actions.

He makes my fucking blood boil.... If his teeth were on fire I wouldn't piss in the cunts mouth to put them out.

Where is he going to go?

Well he made sure to apply to get his kids German passports the day after the referendum. So perhaps they can have him.

Wait, you're telling me Nigel Farage lied about the reasons they closed his account? I am SHOCKED, I tell you.

[-] mannycalavera@feddit.uk 12 points 1 year ago

Why do people still care about this slag? Stop giving him press time.

He said that losing his bank account was the equivalent of being a "non-person" and that the decision may "fundamentally affect my future career and whether I can even go on staying living here in this country".

Don't worry Nige, you can always move to some other EU country ... oh wait ... no you can't.

[-] HenrysCat@feddit.uk 11 points 1 year ago

Yes he can because his wife's German and they all have German passports. One rule for me another for thee. Hopefully he fucks off soon the pint swilling inbred chinless fuckface.

[-] sunbeam60@lemmy.one 3 points 1 year ago

Oh FFS. His whole brexit schtick is so lamentable. Of course he retains an EU citizenship.

[-] Zellith@lemmy.fmhy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

Well even if he moves I doubt that he would be staying with his wife. They have basically been living separate lives for a good few years now (at least thats my understanding). I doubt she'd have him.

AFAIK a Maltese passport is easy enough to obtain with a bit of cash.

[-] sunbeam60@lemmy.one 1 points 1 year ago

Although by the article that whole cash thing seems a bit of a problem for him rn

[-] _rowdy_p_@feddit.uk 8 points 1 year ago

It did seem concerning that a person can be left without access to a bank in this day and age. But I found it frustratimg he choose to frame his issue as those remainers out to get him.

[-] hellothere@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 year ago

One note man plays one note, more at 11.

[-] david@feddit.uk 2 points 1 year ago

They offered him a regular NatWest account. In my view, being forced to bank with the rest of us doesn't make you a non person, but perhaps I don't share the same contempt for the general population that Mr Man of the People Farage has.

[-] Emperor@feddit.uk 5 points 1 year ago

From the interview he gave to Radio 4 it appears he freely admits he doesn't meet their criteria and may never have done so. That leaves the real question open: why'd he have one in the first place?

[-] Syldon@feddit.uk 4 points 1 year ago

Farage caught making stuff up again, it seems.

[-] GreatAlbatross@feddit.uk 3 points 1 year ago

It's funny, this was rattling around in the back of my mind as something that might have happened.
I didn't want to speculate, as it could also have been AML, but that tallies perfectly.

Some people see wealth management company accounts as status symbols.
Honestly, I'm surprised he made such a big thing of it, unless he desperately wanted to make it a "Farage vs Establishment" story.

Go woke, go broke.

Err... wait. That's not right.

General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

!ukpolitics@lemm.ee appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(
