For example (NSFW/NSFL) https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/comment/4804997 or https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/comment/4795872

this might be an attempt to get blahaj defederated. One of them does not seem to be too fond of trans people. Ex 2: 4805706

This is obviously an attack on a specific Lemmy instance that just so happens to be transgender - centric.

[-] DragonTypeWyvern@literature.cafe 10 points 11 months ago

Nah they're hitting a lot of places. Just some hatefilled loser.

[-] Nougat@kbin.social 43 points 11 months ago

Yeah, they're posting a lot of places, but all the accounts are registered at blahaj. The end result will be instances defederating from blahaj.

create an trap instance to try to get them making accounts there, mabye spam the email used too.

Replying just to say that I agree with this. I’m in queer Discord servers with an order of magnitude less users who have similar questionnaires. The one caveat is that those servers have moderators, as well as admins, going over those answers. I think Lemmy needs to add an ‘Instance Moderator’ role that’s able to deal with things like this without having backend access.

See my previous answer. Anything short of an interview wouldn't work here.

[-] ada 14 points 11 months ago

These accounts are being manually registered. Their goal isn't mass registration to spam multiple places, but a few targeted registrations that then spam other instances and get us defederated. They are quite happy to answer questions and do whatever needed to slip through the cracks.

Even manual account approval won't stop them.

What should be limiting their impact is the rate limit set in the Lemmy control panel, but it's not working.

This was my thoughts too, yea.

why has this soot jackass not been banned yet?

Was that the bot who posted word salad links? I reported them multiple times.

Do I even want to know what the image links were? I'm old enough to know better than to click on stuff like that.

[-] LadyAutumn 10 points 11 months ago

It was as bad as you're thinking. Honestly, it's not worth knowing.

[-] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 11 months ago

I believe someone said it was Nickocado Avocado’s spread asshole, so nothing super insane. Eyeblech had so much worse stuff RIP

[-] Sheeple@lemmy.world 20 points 11 months ago

As someone from Blahaj zone, yeah. We have been under attack for a while. It sucks

[-] BolexForSoup@kbin.social 6 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Literally just came from a thread about a Newsweek article where some blahaj account carpet bombed everything with porn spam. It’s time to defederate. This is getting ridiculous. If the Admins over there can’t get it under control then we simply shouldn’t deal with it.

Has he been server banned?

[-] ada 9 points 11 months ago

It's not a matter of getting it "under control". The trolls specifically create accounts with us to get us defederated, including verifying email and answering approval questions.

The thing that is meant to stop them (rate limiting) doesn't work.

In short there is nothing we can do to get it under control short of blocking them when they slip through the cracks.

If that's not good enough and you still want to defederate, well, that was their goal...

The rest of the lemmyverse has put up with kbins spam problem for months. You'll handle a few days from us

[-] ernest@kbin.social 7 points 11 months ago

Lately, I've implemented some restrictions that should eliminate or significantly reduce the issue of outgoing spam from kbin.social. I apologize for any inconvenience and really appreciate your patience. I'm confident that both the Lemmy and kbin tools will be adjusted over time, and until then, we all need to take a deep breath and overlook certain things. Good luck with that.

[-] ada 4 points 11 months ago

Despite the teething problems, you're doing a great job with kbin. In my mind, it's got more potential than lemmy does!

Your initial message suggested “it’s time to defederate”. It definitely came across as you being unwilling to discuss “viable solutions” and wanting to jump straight to the nuclear option. As the OP mentioned, getting Blahaj defederated is probably the ultimate goal of this user, and user’s like them. I think you got a pretty reasonable response, all things considered. You don’t get to dial the heat up to 11 and then get upset when people respond in kind.

That’s fair, it was a bit of an overstatement.
