There's a particular community that I'd like to take over, which has been inactive for over 2 years. One of the mods was last active two years ago, and the other never even made a single post. I've reached out to them to be added as a mod, but I haven't received any response.

Is there anything that the Lemmy admins can do about this? I'd hate for Lemmy to be in the same situation as Reddit, with bunch of abandoned subs with inactive mods and subs getting filled with spam.

Thanks!

Every instance can have their own rules for how to handle this. For communities on lemmy.ml. we have !community_requests@lemmy.ml. For other instances, the rules are different. You need to see for yourself how this works for the instance whose community you want to moderate.

The instance admin of the instance where the community is hosted has the power to change the moderators, so just reach out to them. As many others have commented here, some instances may already have procedures in place for that.

Check out !community_requests@lemmy.ml if it is hosted on lemmy.ml
