Discourse is a pain for sysadmins. I hope they wouldn't.

Yep, no reason to change at all :).
We are wanting to change. See the public discussion at our GitLab. FluxBB is an unmaintained dead-end and it's just a question of time when it breaks. The migration path has to be well-developed before we do it though.
In that issue, you can we did an evaluation of all obvious alternatives and it really comes down to Discourse. It really doesn't seem to have any modern, maintained alternatives.
So yes, it will happen. Question is when.
What advantage does Discourse have over FluxBB?
Why not move to some Lemmy instance. Make its own community?
IMHO the forum looks just good. Simple yet functional design. No need to fix something not broken

I can't stand the "It's dated; replace it!" mindset. Why would you spend time (or expect others to spend their time!) fixing something that isn't broken?
