Great, I get to choose between two real estate developers for city council. Guess I'll vote for the one who doesn't have a history of domestic abuse.
First past the post doing what it does.
Still worth pulling the "less evil" lever for, you know, less evil.
yeah people keep saying that but i've been voting for less evil my whole life and all i get is more evil
Hey, uh, I think this thing is broken
Nah, it's working as intended, if you look back here both levers are pressing this button that says 'Barbarism'
This is the thing they can't admit. That the system isn't broken. It works exactly how its meant to, for the people ots meant to wirk for.
For libs its always some magic bullet, some minor reform, one reversal of one policy and it'll all be fixed. "The problem is 'first past the poll' we need 'ranked choice' then elections will work." For example
Typical hexbear user
Either you’re creating anti democratic propaganda or you’re consuming and regurgitating it. Fuck off.
Typical hexbear user observing the world. Maybe next time if you hard enough it'll finally work
yeah i'm sure not voting definitely will change things
oh wait
and before you go on about doing other stuff than voting, you know that voting doesn't keep you from also doing those things? not voting is just bad, no good. you're not giving the state the finger you're laying down and saying 'do with me what you will idc.'
Precisely. I voted today and it took a few minutes of my time. There was still plenty of time in the morning to keep working on the things I think will make more of an impact re: improving things somewhat. Mutual aid and anything else in the bucket of "resisting tyrannical government" is much easier when it's only +1 more evil rather than +10.
Nah I think the people who constantly make the most barbaric decisions or excuse why they can't revert them are the ones being anti-democratic.
Wouldn't those with the power given to them by the population who then act against what those voters want be the anti-democratic ones?
I struggle to see how potential voters pointing out they never get what they ask for is the reason for any of our problems today.
Ohh yeah, you always get more evil, but it is earnestly less of it.
You prefer +1 evil or +10 evil? That's our system of government. Push for voting reforms, which neither evil likes, but you are more likely to get with +1 evil then +10.
Okay then clearly dismantling the system of government that only produces evil ourcomes is the place to start
Typical hexbear! Suggesting we should address systemic issues to improve society somewhat. Don't you see +1 evil is the best we can ever have? I am very intelligent and an Adult in the Room(tm)
Of course, but maybe not to start. To start, vote for less evil. Next, mutual aid. Next, election reform. Next, unionization and systemic social support. Do as many "nexts" at the same time as possible.
Always be fucking up facists.
After that, we probally disagree, but that's fine. I think we both will be walking a long way together.
hmmm yeah sounds like the entire system of government is dogshit and needs to go
It does sound like that, but have you considered blue no matter who?
I prefer not evil.
Stop supporting evil.
Exactly.
Stop giving votes to those who don't deserve it.
Just stop.
When the douche beats the turd sandwich with 50 million votes, it encourages douches.
When the douche beats the turd sandwich with 3000 votes, it encourages people who aren't either.
It isnt first past the post. It is bourgeois democracy. Things would be the same if there was one party or twenty so long as the bourgeoisie own the state.
unfortunately the prime directive prevents me from interfering with societies that have not yet invented vote-by-mail
I'm glad Colorado has been accepted into the Federation then.
I did, AND because my city does ranked choice voting, I got to pick someone for my first choice that I actually like. She probably won't win, but it's not dangerous for me to vote for her!
That's awesome! Go you!
I did my part. Super easy ballot this year:
Libertarian (sticker placed over republican views), or democrat who doesn't do anything but at least he isn't a republican
Old white dude who says all races matter, or old black lady who says diversity is good
Dude who enlisted in the army after 9/11 and thinks we need more cops in schools, or literally anyone else
Personally, I support the Borg Collective but the Ferengi Trade Consortium does make so good points.
Like a true Ferengi I voted twice but of course had to pay.
Ahhahaha
Ohioans say YES, YES, YES!!
No election in my district this year, apparently.
Same, I feel left out.
Not here it's not.
I think the yanks are having some sort of election, it usually is around Cup Day. They don't have compulsory voting like us, so it's a bit different attitudewise.
Today is election day, but this year is only local elections, nothing national. My district actually has nothing.
Sorry...local and statewide. I guess my state has nothing either.
Is Cup Day when the guvnas have a cuppa?
Nah, we have a public holiday for horse races. The Melbourne Cup. (not the American melbourne, the one pronounced "MELb'n" here in Oz).
Yep, we usually have an election the first or second Tuesday of every November. On the one hand it sucks that more of us don't vote, but on the other hand I'd rather that people who get a ballot and just pick whatever name sounds better not do that
