or you can just pirate the movie /show somewhere.

[-] turdburglar@piefed.social 20 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

jellyfin doesn’t. and your shows never go to another streamer. oh and you can watch them when the internet goes out. oh and they don’t track your watching habits.

why are you watching ~~paramount~~ ~~netflix~~ ~~hulu~~ peacock again?

[-] starlinguk@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago

Isn't Jellyfin something you have to run on your own server? It's not comparable to normal streaming services in any shape or form.

[-] Ricaz@lemmy.world 8 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

That's the point..

It's very comparable to "normal streaming services", just better in every way imaginable, provided you set up the backend with supporting services

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 hour ago

peacock came about during mid pandemic, trying to lure in people with old shows like house, and hosting SVU. it kinda fell off once the other streams took over.

[-] lemmelemmy@feddit.org 1 points 1 hour ago

Stremio 👍

My wife wanted to watch Obession this weekend, which is streaming on Peacock. That was the first time I've watched anything on there in at least a year. What a garbage ass service. Like 3 minutes of ads before the movie starts. Then ads on the pause screen.

[-] starlinguk@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

Don't do that in Germany. Your ISP will report you.

[-] lemmelemmy@feddit.org 2 points 1 hour ago

There are so many ways.

Or just don’t watch. Many of those mass produced shows doesn’t have a single positive contribution apart from stealing people’s time anyway.

[-] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 136 points 12 hours ago

Note to self: Hi self, you're awesome! Thanks for not spending all my money on streaming services that treat you like shit, and keep raising prices. I shall continue to not buying peacock.....or hulu.....or netflix.

"No commercials version, $3 extra......may contain commercials."

Fuck the core concept of that.

[-] skisnow@lemmy.ca 1 points 48 minutes ago

It drives business people insane, that people who have enough disposable income to pay to remove ads, are exactly the high value customers that they can charge more money to advertise to.

Once you have a 'no ads' tier, your advertisers know that the only people they're getting seen by are people who don't spend money, and they won't want to advertise with you. But if you make a special "here's an audience who piss away money like it's going out of fashion" tier, they'll triple their spend.

I was on an airplane the other day, the ticket advertised free wifi, but in reality you have to watch ads to unlock minutes.

Edit: should also add the whole time we were delayed it showed ads that can’t be turned off, then when you take off it has a 4 minute unskippable (and undimmable) ad, then they put ads on the little airplane progress screen.

Worst flying experience of my life.

[-] cantstopthesignal@sh.itjust.works 8 points 7 hours ago

It's real cool flying with a toddler that I'm desperately trying to keep away from screens only to have them be forcibly mesmerized by bullshit on screens that can't be shut off.

[-] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 27 points 12 hours ago
[-] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 19 points 11 hours ago

yeah I need to know who's doing this fuckery so I can avoid it

[-] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 6 points 10 hours ago

If this had been posted 2 months ago, I'd say "hopefully it's Spirit or Frontier". Because I avoid those airlines anyways.

But seeing as it's being posted now, I'd say we can rule our Spirit.

Hopefully it was Frontier. Because I refuse to fly that airline at all. Though, I think we can rule them out too. They're too cheap for screens in the seats.

[-] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 6 points 10 hours ago

spirit's a ghost airline now :D

[-] luxadazy@lemmy.zip 4 points 12 hours ago

plane rides are one of the only places left where the notifications can’t find me

[-] techt@lemmy.world 5 points 8 hours ago

You can put your phone in airplane mode even if you don't have a flight. I've tried; it works! I tell my phone when it's time to get notifications. The elation is indescribable.

[-] Zarobi@aussie.zone 6 points 8 hours ago

Also scheduled summary and ruthlessly culling notification permissions. The minute an app disrespects my attention and time, their permissions get revoked.

Here's what you missed! Don't forget to log in!

Yeah nah

[-] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 15 points 10 hours ago

I'll take "How did this television get a bullet hole in it?" for 300

[-] Amuro_eat 53 points 12 hours ago

Pirate everything

[-] BC_viper@lemmy.world 27 points 11 hours ago

I remember watching TV a while ago. I think it was paramount?. But for every 5 minutes of movie they played 10 minutes of commercials. It was the most infuriating thing I ever saw. Abandoned the movie after 30 minutes.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 1 hour ago

thats alot more annoying than MILD.

[-] desmosthenes@lemmy.world 16 points 11 hours ago

/uninstall & cancel

[-] reddig33@lemmy.world 18 points 12 hours ago

And they just raised their subscription price. 😆

[-] ignotum@lemmy.world 7 points 10 hours ago

Well they need to pay their teams of engineers dedicated to adding ads everywhere, that ain't cheap!

[-] hperrin@lemmy.ca 12 points 11 hours ago

I’ve never once had a commercial on Jellyfin.

[-] Grass@sh.itjust.works 3 points 9 hours ago

I put some classics on mine like the one with 'what are you sinking about?'

[-] obvs@lemmy.world 14 points 12 hours ago

I noticed this on a relative's YouTubeTV, that when I paused to read the screen, it threw garbage up on the screen over the text. "Mildly infuriating" is right!

[-] PieMePlenty@lemmy.world 5 points 2 hours ago

Isn't it funny, when you visit a relative or friend and see their TV and web browser experience is full of ads and shit, while at home you see no ads and sometimes forget they even exist? I've noticed this many times.

[-] mimavox@piefed.social 1 points 2 hours ago

Yep. Except in podcasts. They can't be avoided there in any other way than hammering the forward button. F-ing nuisance.

[-] Evkob@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 minutes ago

I've found that DNS-level blocklists usually take care of the ads that are added into podcasts on download.

Now if only we could have something akin to Sponsorblock for podcasts.

[-] PieMePlenty@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

Discovering the next track button on my steering wheel does a +30sec instead of skip track was a game changer lol

[-] ceenote@lemmy.world 10 points 11 hours ago

This seems more than mildly infuriating

[-] FluidBeef@quokk.au 6 points 11 hours ago
[-] TemplaerDude@sh.itjust.works 2 points 9 hours ago

Got an ipTV box earlier this year and immediately cancelled everything. Saving hundreds of dollars. I strongly recommend finding someone to hook you up.
