More than a dozen Taylor Farms products that were sold at large retailers across the US are being recalled because they include jalapeño peppers that may be contaminated with salmonella.

The recalled products include salsas, dips, sandwiches and more that were distributed across 26 states and sold at stores including Kroger, Target, Trader Joe’s, Walmart and Whole Foods. The full list of recalled products can be found on Taylor Farms’ website.

Some of the products include “Best If Used By” dates up to and including August 16, and consumers are urged to discard any recalled products immediately. Refunds are available at the location of purchase, Taylor Fresh Foods says.

How about we just stop buying everything they ever make?

If you compare the rate of their recalls to their market share, they are actually in line with the industry. They're making lots of news because they're big. Not because they are worse.

Our food system is pretty darned safe. Producing fresh-cut washed produce is the most risky product as far as like vegetables go, and these things will generally always happen. That these are caught is showing that the system is WORKING, not that it isn't.

I know it's very very popular to be angry about this, but if you really look at the issue, it's just not a huge problem.

For example, if we treated cars the way we're looking at this: There are so many deaths from auto accidents that we would ban cars and force everyone to use public transportation. The media would breathlessly report every single fatal car accident.

If you don't like that analogy, it's like how flying is one of the safest ways to travel. And yet, crashed happen and people die. But it's still many times safer than cars are.

It wasn't caught, that's why it's happening. Thanks to deregulate and corrupt trump payoffs.

It wasn’t caught,

Oh, I see. That's why we don't know about it.

So the way it works is that they do proactive tests that take a few days for results. But instead of letting produce sit there and age, they distribute it because the extreme vast majority of the food is safe.

So if a test DOES come back positive, then they recall it.

It was caught. That's why the recall was issued.

Again, this is the system WORKING.

If the system did NOT work, there wouldn't be recalls, people would simply get sick.

Is all of it actually branded and sold at retail?

[-] protogen420 9 points 4 hours ago

no, they are the supplier of many franchises, like taco bell, but appareny taco bell issued their own internal recall on the taylor farms lettuce unlike taylor farms itself

[-] grue@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

I thought I'd remembered something like that. Modern supply chains make it really hard to boycott things properly sometimes.

You get salmonella! And you get salmonella! Everybody gets salmonella!

Maybe stop buying Mexican food from a company that supports racists?

[-] curbstickle@anarchist.nexus 3 points 4 hours ago

Its rebranded for a ton of different stores and a supplier to restaurants and chains.

I agree, just saying its easier said than done.

Taylor farms is about to feel the invisible hand smacking them in the head. And then a bailout.
