The fucking adhd sub whose posts are already generating some personal doubts about myself is leaking to memes now…

I'm trying to teach my kid the value in spending time with one idea, developing it, and letting it unfold. Fresh ideas are worthless, infinite, mostly uninteresting. Actual thinking is the work that makes them valuable.

I will probably not succeed. He thrills with each new random surface-level notion. He seems to feel that thinking is about volume and momentum, rather than clarity and depth.

There can be benefit in that high speed torrent of ideas, but only if you can somehow record and categorise them. It may be enough to 'empty' you brain to give you space to think, but it also gives you a lot of individual ideas that you might be able to put together in novel ways to address various tasks. I'd agree that deliberate, directed, thinking is a really important skill to learn though, and one that will probably lead to positive results more often than the scattergun approach.

My mid term memory is a conversation with myself in a chat app.

It's not about the preservation, but the memory and avoiding the feeling you gaslit yourself
