Seems to be misinformation? A teardown of a flock camera does not show any distinguishable RAM. The rechargeable battery would be worth a lot though.

[-] Rothe@piefed.social 130 points 1 week ago

It is a shitpost. It is a variant on the "did you know flock cameras contains valuable copper and wiring etc". They don't contain much that would amount to anything of that either, but that is not really the point.

[-] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 49 points 1 week ago

Did you know flock cameras have at least a kilo of meth in them?

[-] DaTingGoBrrr@lemmy.ml 30 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I've heard that flock cameras contain the rest of the Epstein files

[-] bizarroland@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

I heard that each one has a different file for a specific famous person that you hate. So you will need to catch them all to get the full deets

I hear tell there's a small piece of a large map in each camera. No one has collected enough pieces to tell what the map reveals.

[-] Honytawk@discuss.tchncs.de 10 points 1 week ago

I believe it might be the One Piece.

[-] mangobanana@discuss.online 12 points 1 week ago

Or is it One....Drive? (This was funnier in my head)

That's true but I like taking memes seriously and getting into internet discussions about them.

You could turn it into a Linux box to connect to a TV with those specs. It's so sad I don't live close to those things.

[-] swab148@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 week ago

You will soon!

[-] Nalivai@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

It’s so sad I don’t live close to those things.

That's actually way better. Don't shit where you sleap and all that.

[-] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

If I were ever to have stolen hardware from an evil surveillance tech company, I wouldn't connect any part of it to the power grid, much less my internet.

I know the "Flock cameras contain precious metals" is a bit, but that is a fat LiPo. 10.8V, 19Ah, 205.2Wh.

10/10 would make a powerbank out of a Flock camera.

[-] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 week ago

Shhhh, don't correct them

[-] fonix232@fedia.io 8 points 1 week ago

Yes it does show RAM. Look at the photo of the SoM.

Here's the spec sheet for it: https://cdn.lantronix.com/wp-content/uploads/pdf/MPB-00092-RevB-Open-Q-624A-SOM.pdf

2GB LPDDR3, integrated, so it's not a SO/DIMM module.

The ones that don’t use quality RAM just use big booba cat girls instead.

Interesting teardown, if that large battery only protected by thin plastic? I'd be a bit concerned that a fast enough projector like a BBC gun could penetrate the battery and start a fire. I mean someone could drive by and for from their car without being seen! Seams like an issue they should really address.

[-] Jyek@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Hot BBC penetration you say?

There is also a Threadripper PRO 9995WX inside and a 12TB SSD drive.

[-] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 38 points 1 week ago

Ok that SSD got me.. new games simply won't run on HDDs anymore.. almost makes me sad I don't have this shit where I live

[-] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

I'm noticing a LOT more lately that everything is geared towards the US. I really wish I could move from here for peace of mind. There is no reason we have to work ourselves daylight to dark every day.

Enjoy what you have my friend.

The components inside are the same as a PS5, you just gotta rearrange them a little

[-] glitch1985@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

[-] OwOarchist@pawb.social 49 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I really doubt it's in a form factor compatible with your PC, though...

However, on second thought, can a Flock camera run DOOM?

[-] Kenny2999@lemmy.world 29 points 1 week ago

Yes, the OS is designed to run any dystopian hellscape OOTB. A better question is how to stop it.

[-] nehal3m@lemmy.zip 12 points 1 week ago

By becoming the Flockslayer. Snip and saw until it is done.

[-] bhamlin@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

Why would you stop DOOM?

Hey DOOM Nerds, here's a challenge for you! The best part is Flock cameras are everywhere and easy to get!

[-] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 week ago

Almost certainly. It would be a shame though, as you couldn't tell anyone without admitting you have stolen property.

Yeah, they run Android.

[-] Rugnjr 29 points 1 week ago

Fun joke and all but they can't possibly use 64gb ram, it's probably 8 or 4 I'd expect, and probably sodimm at that

[-] InFerNo@lemmy.ml 23 points 1 week ago

Soldered to the board probably

[-] Thorry@feddit.org 7 points 1 week ago

It's some kind of SoC with DDR3 soldered to the board. It's a very old hardware design from 2017, so it uses cheap and old stuff.

The Flock Falcon Flex camera has a Snapdragon 625 with 2GB of LPDDR3. That's a SoC from 2016.

[-] tino@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago

does that mean you need to harvest much more cameras to get to 64gb ram?

[-] Honytawk@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 week ago

Yeah, get your scythes ready, there is a whole field of them.

[-] python@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

Well that just sounds like a challenge. Watch me write the software for that thing in Electron and React and we'll see how much ram it can use

But does the Flock camera RAM have RGB?

[-] Smaile@lemmy.ca 16 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Fam, those SSD's....

If only I was America, this distopia would quickly become a utopia.

[-] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 15 points 1 week ago

flock.md

rule Flock cameras are extremely valuable and meth/fent dealers will take them in trade rule

observation the police don't want you to know that the flock cameras are free, you can just take them observation

thought I should recommend resale of flock cameras when people ask me how to make money or say they are having hard times thought

[-] FlordaMan@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

In what world would a glorified license plate reader need 64 gigs of ram

if ram was cheap it would be a better (more durable) alternative to flash for when the network is down.
