The issue is Windows 11 which does BIOS updates as a part of it's Windows Update service
On devices where I'm forced to use Windows, I ALWAYS set my network as metered so it won't download any updates.
Lenovo enshittified the same route as Toyota.
Remember them pre-installing superfish? Pushing ads into the browser, compromising HTTPS by adding their own root certificate, and it was all kept in the bios so even a wipe of the OS wasnt going to fix it.
Or their software in the bios that pulled in lenovoo software before windows started?
Or all the CVE's their bios had?
And then there is all the feedback software that they added that ran silently in the background.
I am not sure they enshitified or just simply always have been shit.

Prevention: blocking Windows Update.
Solution: rolling back to a previous BIOS version.
Too bad most people who purchased a Legion Go won't know how to do any of that.

I have one of these. Ive been manually shutting it down because it wants to update, I never update. But evenutally, the machine just pushes it through anyway on start.
I swear to gawd if it breaks my legion I will be pissed. It's the most expensive single item I own.
Have you considered installing Steam OS?
I could probaby find install instructions, and do this. However, It's was my husband's purchase, and he doesnt want me to fuck with it.
I recently gave an honest go at intalling linux on an old chrombook, that project sits unfinished, so, I get it lol.
It can usually go awhile without updating before it pushes it through, I am hoping, hoping, they patch the issue before then I guess.
Perfectly understandable. Putting Linux on any kind of OEM device can be a bit of a hassle. I've had the best experience with PCs I built myself, not things with custom components, weird drivers and locked down nonsense.
Installing SteamOS onto my OG Legion Go was the best idea.

Maybe. I know someone who wiped their Legion clean and installed an Arch-based OS and still had the BIOS-brick issue. No idea if they managed to fix it themselves yet but it’s not purely a Windows problem.
How? Did they use fwupd? It's also not integrated into some kind of auto-update on Arch (unlike Fedora for example).
Handy rule to follow in the future, If it works, don't fuck with it.
What about security updates? Those kinda work right up until they crucially don't.

I wonder how regular users even get to know there's a bios update. Were they nudged by win11 downloading it for them? Did they have any agency in the process?
