The “Venom” trilogy was huge, but other spinoffs like “Kraven the Hunter” and “Madame Web” were misfires. Why didn’t those work?

Ultimately, the audience wasn’t satisfied enough with them. Whether that’s a fair assessment of those movies, who knows. That’s howling into the wind. The audience is the boss, and they didn’t respond. It’s as simple as that.

Are there plans to keep developing Sony’s universe of Marvel characters?

Right now, we don’t know. We never looked at it as the “Sony-Marvel Universe.” We looked at if there were worthwhile movies to make with other characters. At the moment, there are none in active development.

- Why weren't those movies successful?

- Because they weren't successful.

Such insight, much self-reflection.

Hey! The 8 people in my viewing for Madame Web helped...

And I'm sure Sony Pictures deeply appreciates the support, to this day.

We never looked at it as the “Sony-Marvel Universe.”

I mean that's absolutely how it was pitched, but they never actually did any sharing. They borrowed Vulture from Spider-Man Homecoming in the Morbius post-credits and temporarily threw Venom into the MCU during the Venom 2 post-credits. However none of their films crossed over.

We looked at if there were worthwhile movies to make with other characters.

They mostly made Venom work. Basically the success of the Venom series made them think they could do it again. It wasn't a crazy idea, but the quality wasn't there for the other projects. With Venom you had name recognition and you could just look at it like a weird alien movie.

Morbius and Madam Web were unknowns and neither film was memorable. I think by Kraven they started to have an idea, but it was too little too late.
