Good, Hamas terrorists and their apologists should not be given a platform.

[-] Sitcom@monyet.cc 67 points 1 year ago

Israel and their apologists should not be given one, either.

Title is a bit misleading. Those channels are not blocked on Android in general, but only on the play store version of telegram. Download from F-Droid instead and that's that.

[-] DarkThoughts@kbin.social 45 points 1 year ago

I think I can do without terrorist channels.

[-] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 29 points 1 year ago

It's the principal of the matter.

[-] WldFyre@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago

Do you feel the same about Nazi channels?

[-] WldFyre@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago

You'd be upset if Nazi accounts were banned?

[-] avater@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

No, of course not? Did I get the question wrong?

[-] WldFyre@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

Someone said they were okay with these accounts being banned. You replying "it's the principle of the matter" made it sound like you were disagreeing with those bans in free speech or anti-"corporate" censorship like many other commenters were saying. So I asked if you were okay with them banning Nazi accounts, which you agreed with so maybe I misunderstood?

It's a different person, dude

[-] WldFyre@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

Whoops my bad

[-] JackGreenEarth@lemm.ee 28 points 1 year ago

They shouldn't submit to arbitrary censorship, even if I also disagree with Hamas, Google could do it to anyone they disagree with. Telegram should move to (or at least also be on, with an uncensored version) F-Droid.

[-] DarkThoughts@kbin.social 23 points 1 year ago

If you think blocking literal terrorists is "arbitrary censorship" then I don't even know what the fuck you are looking for in a society.

[-] wahming@monyet.cc 5 points 1 year ago

One where we treat HAMAS and IDF the same way

[-] DarkThoughts@kbin.social 5 points 1 year ago

Seek professional help then. Seriously, before you hurt someone.

[-] steven@infosec.pub 13 points 1 year ago

They are. There's a FOSS version of Telegram on f-droid.

[-] blazera@kbin.social 19 points 1 year ago

The world is telling palestinians to just give up and die

[-] jeena@jemmy.jeena.net 22 points 1 year ago

Hamas does not equal Palestinians.

[-] blazera@kbin.social 8 points 1 year ago

Right, so get rid of hamas so theres no more obstacle to exterminating palestinians.

[-] DarkThoughts@kbin.social 15 points 1 year ago

Stop calling every Palestinian a terrorist.

[-] blazera@kbin.social 7 points 1 year ago

Who is stopping palestinians being exterminated?

[-] roguetrick@kbin.social 8 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

If you think Hamas is an effective security for Gaza and the West Bank, you're outta your mind. It's the existential threat of becoming enough of a pariah to be forced to trade with North Korea and rely on the Kibbutz economy again. Can't really maintain tritium stockpiles that way.

Hamas is as effective security for Gaza as Likud is for Israel. It would be better off for both parties if each fucked off.

[-] blazera@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

Okay, who else is gonna stop the extermination if not hamas?

[-] DarkThoughts@kbin.social 7 points 1 year ago

Certainly not Hamas, since they're responsible for what is happening now.

[-] Djehngo@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

The threat of international condemnation and the less hawkish members of the Israeli government and electorate.

Predictably the rate at which civilians in Gaza are bombed by Israel went up not down after Hamas' acts of terrorism the other week.

Even if you believe that the Israeli government is ontologically evil; serving them up causus belli to bomb and potentially invade Palestinian lands does not constitute "preventing Palestinians from being exterminated", rather it actively helps them hastens the process

[-] blazera@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

The international community supports the extermination

[-] PvtGetSum@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago
[-] blazera@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

What do yall think was happening in gaza before this attack?

[-] PvtGetSum@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Why do you think that was happening before this attack?

[-] blazera@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago
[-] Grant_M@lemmy.ca 18 points 1 year ago

First good thing Google has ever done.

[-] smolyeet@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago

🙄 way to be over dramatic

[-] coffee_poops@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 year ago

This is why I don't use a messaging app that allows non-participants to control my conversations.

[-] bookmeat@lemm.ee 14 points 1 year ago

This is just another parameter that will now be built into future chat software; no high level control over channels or groups by any central authority. The Internet will route around all obstacles.

[-] FartsWithAnAccent@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago

Wow Google, that's pretty not evil of you!

[-] Socsa@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago

Hamas channels, or Hamas channels promoting violence?
