25 was good, insurance costs often go down, you're more likely to now be seen as a responsible adult by default. Your body is probably not rapidly deteriorating.

The best I have for you all at that age is, you're probably not feeling a effects of age yet, you can probably still party and most of your friends aren't married with children so you probably still have people to party with.

30's you recover more slowly, your friends start getting sparse as they start their own families.

40's you have to work to not fall to sloth, energy isn't a given, you have to schedule to get time with your friends

50's you need to start being careful about how you do things. your friends have grown children, if you don't do body maintenance you will fall into disrepair and it's hard AF to get out of that. Many people find stuff they used to enjoy eating now causes them discomfort. Your knees, back, ankles might pop when you get out of bed or occasionally when you go up steps

ayo. old head here.

At 29. I had a pact with myself to kill myself before my 40th birthday.

I'm 43 this year.

If you take one piece of advice away: life is always worth living, there's always a tomorrow, no matter how bad you feel that feeling is not forever and things can change and you can change them.

I have struggles, doubts, frustrations, rages, disappointments, set backs, failures and, indeed, depression. But I lived. And even today I had a bad moment, I was feeling super low - but this evening I had a wonderful time with some friends and came home to my wife who I adore.

You made it to 25 and I knew a few people who didn't when I was 25. Now I'm forty fewer people have made it with me.

I miss them but we get to see what's next. You get to see what's next.

Enjoy being 25, 26, and beyond

I'm glad you're still here and thank you so much for the words of advice/encouragement.

43 this year too. 42 was a wild ride and 43 isn't shaping up to be any less crazy.

If I could offer only one piece of advice, sunscreen would be it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proven by scientists, where as the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience.

And no, there was no copying, nor pasting involved, I just remember that "song" very well. If you don't know what I'm talking about, it may be worth looking up, because as I've gotten older, the advice in that "song" has only become more accurate, more true, and hit home a whole lot harder year after year.

Happy finally-considered-an-adult-by-car-insurance-and-rental-companies day!

I'm sorry you don't want to be 25. In my experience, 30 is far better, so just hang on and do your best 🤗

Happy birthday! I remember turning 25 and feeling so old. Now I'm in my thirties and it rules. Well, the world sucks, but on a personal level, don't sweat it. You've got plenty to enjoy now and plenty to look forward to.

A comic by Sarah Andersen where she is told as a kid that life is basically over after turning thirty, until she opens a door to 'life after I turned 30' and found it was rainbows and flowers

[-] foodandart@lemmy.zip 17 points 3 days ago

30s. Those were the fun years. Am 61 now and NGL, once you hit 50 and get gray and wrinkles.. you find that people will give you even less shit. Which is amazing! Some say that it's the aches and pains that come of age that suck the most, but I've always been a bit on the clumsy side with a high pain threshold, so it's been a constant since I was a teenager.

Are we supposed to get a second time through our 20s? If so, I got ripped off man.

[-] teslasdisciple@lemmy.ca 64 points 3 days ago

I would give my left nut to be 25

[-] Janx@piefed.social 66 points 3 days ago

I would also trade this guy's nut to be 25 again!

[-] EntheoNaut@lemmy.ml 17 points 3 days ago

I’d collect left nuts like a 🐿️ to be only 25!

.........ok, but now I'm curious. Who is this time lord who offers time travel in exchange for testicles?

[-] Maiq@piefed.zip 21 points 3 days ago

Dr. Whosticles.

[-] humorlessrepost@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago

Back in my day, the exchange rate was 100 foreskins per miracle. Not sure what that is in testicles.

Well I'm more than 25+25 and would not want to be 25 either but don't worry, it will only last a year. Just hang on.

[-] AHemlocksLie@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago

Even if getting old sucks ass, it beats the hell out of the alternative.

[-] FreddiesLantern@leminal.space 2 points 2 days ago

Hey, think of it this way, you still have SO much to discover for the first time. Take it from and old fart, really get to know yourself, be ok with yourself. Don't take shit from anyone.

And if you have someone special in your life, make every moment count. Are we happy? Healthy? Stable? Ok let's not argue about which movie we'll watch who gives a shit anyway.

I wish you all the best dear stranger, grab life by the horns because before you know it it'll pass you by just like that.

Don't worry too much, it's only for a year

[-] Notyou@sopuli.xyz 22 points 3 days ago

I'm in my 40s and each decade of my life has been better than the last. You live and learn. You make mistakes. You grow. You can use that experience to make your quality of life better.

Cut out toxic people, start an exercise routine, learn how to cook good meals, practice your time management skills. Not that I haven't wasted most of today watching AEW, but I did some sprints this morning so I'm resting.

[-] python@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago

Nah, the real tragedy is turning 27, that's when you no longer get discounted rates on the speed train here in Germany 🥺 Gotta ride around as much as I can before it's over for me in October.

[-] vapordays@leminal.space 3 points 2 days ago

For most people, their peak physical potential is between 25-35.

And peak mental potential is older than that

Enjoy

[-] Siegfried@lemmy.world 20 points 3 days ago

I dont want to be 35, but here we are buddy.

[-] Snailpope@lemmy.world 22 points 3 days ago

Oh what I would give to be 35 again, when you're 36 like I am you'll understand how good you have it

[-] TrippaSnippa@aussie.zone 9 points 3 days ago

36? Luxury! When you reach 37 like I am you'll really understand how good you have it.

Happy birthday and don't cry when 30 comes

[-] osanna@lemmy.vg 2 points 2 days ago

I’m nearly 40. What do I win?

[-] MystikIncarnate@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago

Aches and pains! Enjoy!

[-] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

It's fine, you won't be for very long.

[-] doodahjones@piefed.social 13 points 3 days ago

My lot passed around an antique sword cane - when you hit 25, it was yours till the next 25. Wonder who got stuck with it? (Sorry.)
Am 75 now, btw, shooting for the full century.

[-] Resonosity@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 days ago

First time?

[-] chocrates@piefed.world 14 points 3 days ago

My sweet summer child. It just gets worse

[-] protist@retrofed.com 13 points 3 days ago

I really disagree with this. Except the child part, 25 year olds are basically children whose brains have just finished maturing

[-] Treczoks@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

I'd love to be 25 again. Wanna swap?

[-] cley_faye@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

It won't last.

[-] nycvin@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

It's better than the alternative

[-] AdolfSchmitler@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Happy birthday! Don't worry you'll be 35 before you know it :D

25 years and my life is still trying to get up that great big hill of hope for a destination...

25 is a breeze, enjoy your time! Trust, it gets better and better. (The aging part at least, not so sure about the world part lol)

[-] lechekaflan@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Make the most of being a 20something.

[-] kinther@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Happy belatedbirthday, @CaffeineTwo@piefed.world !

25-30 were some of my favorite years. I wish you success, health, and great memories to come.
