Joke's on you, I've seen it and thought it was okay. Even with the weird skeleguy-on-muscleman sex scene.

I heard this was actually good.

My wife and I just watched it. It surprised us how good it was. We're both older millennials who grew up in the era of the original He-Man and the Masters of the Universe cartoon, although I didn't watch it much as a kid and my wife had never seen it. It was still accessible for both of us, not knowing most of the lore of the original.

We both cheered when the 4 Non Blondes' song, What's Up started playing (the meme song that the Internet just calls "HEYYEYAAEYAAAEYAEYAA"). Hilarious that they found a way to slip it in that was plot relevant, not just "Hey, here's your meme reference!"

The film was surprisingly smart and witty. Prince Adam (He-Man) himself had his smart moments, but was mostly a himbo, which my wife found hilarious. She said it's the perfect film for her and her girlfriends to enjoy together over some wine. There were a lot of tropes with women in old sword & sorcery films, but gender-reversed. He-Man is eye candy, kind of dumb, when he "suits up," it's extremely revealing armor that doesn't actually cover or protect his body, just shows lots of sexy skin, etc.

Also, I loved how they explained the cringey names of all He-Man's friends from the old cartoon. They were apparently nicknames he gave them when he was like 10 years old, based on their abilities. Even they thought they were weird names to be called, but kinda leaned into them by the end. Even the name "He-Man" was kinda cringe, but explained that it was the manliest man name 10-yr old Adam could come up with.

We solidly enjoyed it. Easily a 9/10 in my book, and I used to review films for a while. This film actually made me consider starting up my old film review blog again.

I enjoyed it. And he only talked about his dick once. Muscles I think twice. But it was very funny when he went full twink masochist referencing his sword dangling between his meaty thighs.

Is it better than the one from the 80s?

[-] gdog05@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

192% better. Plenty of fun nods to the 89 movie. Poked fun a little bit without being mean. Which is a kindness the 89 movie didn't really deserve. Saying that as someone who was ten when it came out and while I have nostalgia, I knew then it was a big clusterfuck. This is a fun watch. If you have any memories of the original cartoons, you'll find some enjoyable visuals and easter eggs and jokes.

I watched it and it was a lot of fun. It wasn't perfect but particularly if you enjoyed the original cartoon it has a lot to offer I think.

I agree. It was well worth seeing. I had a similar amount of fun watching Mario 2, but He-Man was a much better movie.

It's much better than anyone expected. Super fun entertainment.

I saw it!!

The only thing I remember is the roommate watching romanic comedies on the side.

That and and the exta cops in Paul are rare, but amazing. Where the B or C plot is funnier and more engaging than the A plot.

Share your favorite movie (and other motion picture media) details, potentially with a shitty twist.

To be clear, this is a place for satirical and meta^2^ references. Not really the actual movie details, unless they're truly stupid or have strong meme potential/background. "Oh hai Mark" kind of stuff. Tho sometimes even these can span a good debate.

For maximum funni, include full name of the movie, its release date and all the detail right in the title of the post.

Try to avoid actual shit and other nasty stuff. Mark nsfw when appropriate.
