Decentralized Social Media: What Creators Need To Know About Web3 Platforms

Most people don’t think about where their social media actually lives.
And if that doesn’t sit right with you, you’re not alone. That’s a little too much power for a small group of people to wield.

Here’s the good news: A different kind of social media is starting to grow in the background. One built on openness, transparency, and user control instead of central control.

That website seems more like "Oracle is doing great" but only focusing on the shitcoin impact.

I like how you carefully avoided to say bitcoin, blockchain, or scam in your post.

@one_old_coder You're right! But now I'm catching up... Jokes aside, Bitcoin, Nostr, blockchain, and so on, are magnificent technologies, but most of the people who talk about them are truly embarrassing and sometimes disgusting. A real shame.

Web0 is the way to go, not Web3.

Web0

HTML5 without JS? I would love that.

[-] halm@leminal.space 3 points 3 weeks ago

Probably just a dial-up connection that you access entirely from the command line.

Still better than Crypto BS

I'm referring to the Web0 manifesto coined by Aral Balkan.

web0 is the decentralised web. In other words, web0 is web3 without all the corporate right-libertarian Silicon Valley bullshit.

Web(-5) just using an abacus and showing your friend out a window.

As someone who's crypto-neutral, I don't want to be too negative...

But this article talks about Bluesky and Mastodon. Bluesky is not decentralized and neither application uses any web3 technology.

Is there any actual web3 social media? It doesn't seem like the best use of web3 (versus stuff like financial automation, etc.)

[-] phillycodehound@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Parts of Bluesky are decentralizing. For example my account's PDS is not with Bluesky.

You are correct that Bluesky and Mastodon (et. al) don't really run on Web3 at all.

built on openness, transparency, and user control instead of central control.

Also, cryptocurrency. Actually, it's all cryptocurrency, please invest in the pretend money we're wizarding out of the void.

I still ponder if i should keep this post in my community because i'm not fond of bitcoin...

And i know other currency (G1 la june, free currency) that work as a "basic income" and don't depend on farming computers with GPU.

The post looks like spam pushing Viraly and SocialBee referral links.

The content of it is misleading too, as it has almost nothing to do with web3 platforms whatsoever
