No, they aren't terrified. These people think they are demigods. I've seen it in plent of senior vice presidents even. It's almost a job requirement at this point. A bunch of these tech CEOs are part of the "Rationalist community" and possibly believe in Roko's Basilisk which is a thought experiment that an otherwise benevolent AGI would punish anyone who didn't actively work to bring it about. I first ran into it in a class a couple years ago, the dude running was talking about how our group was the first group of normies he'd seen. It was all silicon Valley C staff before, every one had a dude standing directly behind them who wouldn't talk. We're only hearing about it now, but they've been creating a new personal guard industry since the united Healthcare ceo got it.

They were using sci-fi as their inspiration and the hype for selling their stuff and never bothered to also check the downsides portrayed in the same literature. It's a classic gonk move to be expected from corpo scum.
