I love summer.
I’d rather have 90° than 9°.
I like having daylight past 4pm.
I like seeing blue skies and the sun.
I like being able to go outside without bundling up under five layers, and still being cold.
I like not having to shovel my walks, snowblower my drive, scrape off my car, etc.
I like swimming.
I like seeing green trees, colorful flowers , bumblebees, and nature.
I like taking my kid to the park so he can ride his skateboard.
I like going to the beach.

Fuck winter, man.

Remember when humanity had not almost eradicated two seasons through climate change and you could be a spring or autumn lover?

[-] fartographer@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

Remember when the wet bulb temperature was evolutionarily advantageous for sweat-monsters like me? Now I'm just as hot, and infinitely more wet than everyone around me.

Summer people are all masochists.

[-] blargh513@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 month ago

Yeah, but we are warm and happy.

Y'all cold weather people don't make sense to us either. Nobody wants to sleep in a cold bed. We describe nice people as warm, icy people are bad.

Nobody wants to relax in a hammock when it's icy and windy out.

[-] Echolynx@lemmy.zip 14 points 1 month ago

Nobody wants to sleep in a cold bed.

Are you sleeping without comfy blankets? That's on you.

I never sleep better than in a near-freezing room with warm blankets. Well maybe on trains. Cold room with warm blankets is like the definition of cozy.

A room so warm you don't want blankets is miserable.

[-] Zacryon@feddit.org 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

You can heat up a cold room and a cold bed in winter much more easily than to cool down during summer.

Love the summer. I love my skin not feeling cold as balls as soon as I step outside. Love not taking a cold ass shower in the morning before work. Love the sun being out later into the evening. Love doing outdoor shit. Swimming. Love the warm nights. Hanging out naked.

Winter is the sad time.

Hello, hot weather person. Congratulations on how we're going to INHERIT THE EARTH FROM THESE COLD WEATHER WEAKLINGS

Right?
I'm done with summer. Looking forward to that first early morning air nip with a dusting of frost on the ferns, presaging the arrival of snow.

[-] FatVegan@leminal.space 19 points 1 month ago

I'll enjoy winter as long as it lasts. Probably not for long, snow has become a distant memory

[-] Donkter@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

Unfortunately for us, the best times of the year are about half a month in the spring and half a month in the fall

[-] Damage@feddit.it 6 points 1 month ago

Cool. We don't get snow anymore though... just gray weather, cold and humid enough to be uncomfortable but not enough to be fun.

No cold seeping so deeply into my bones that it lodges itself there to radiate outward through my whole body so I can barely move.

No aching dryness making it almost impossible to breathe.

I know many aren’t built for heat but cold causes me near-debilitating pain and drains my soul of life. I’ll enjoy the warmth and sun while it lasts.

[-] adhdsergio@lemmy.world 18 points 1 month ago

There's no limit to how many layers I can wear in winter, but there's a limit to how many I can take off in the summer. Simple as

I actually love the feeling of a hot wall of furnace hitting me when I go outside. Thick smell of life in the air, chlorophyll, baking earth. The hot blanket of the sun. The sweat, the sweaty men, the shirtless men. OK I am getting off track, we were talking about sweaty men I think?

[-] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

Yess hello it is me, the sweatiest man, I sweat for hours every day just for the fun of it.

Prefer snow to ticks and mosquitoes ngl.

[-] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 16 points 1 month ago

Summer used to be hot but it also used to be perfectly fine to sit in the shade and feel fine. Nowadays the temps even in the shade are over 30-35°.

[-] cattywampas@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago

Rather have 95 and humid than a negative wind chill every single time.

[-] IrateAnteater@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 month ago

90+ and humid is the worst type of environment this planet has to offer. Everything else, from Death Valley to the center of Antarctica, is infinitely better.

In Greek, the word for summer is kalokairi. It literally means "good weather."

Snow can suck a fuck. Totally overrated. Why go somewhere that you need to add layers of polyester just to survive? 1 layer of linen and I'm set.

Edit: Every downvote from you churns a server in a data center that makes the earth heat up. Bring it on. Let the leopards eat your faces!

Yes I will gladly take the pits of hell over anything from Jack Frost or temperatures going anywhere below 70.

[-] eletes@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 month ago

I love summer, but you have to do it right. Going to the store and walking across a hot blacktop parking lot is asking for a bad time.

Hanging out in a park, going for hike, swimming, hitting the beach, more daylight hours, ice cream, grilling and admiring the greenery. That's peak life on Earth 🌎🌍

[-] Gahidus@lemmus.org 14 points 1 month ago

All of those things happen outside in the blistering heat with the sun beating down on you as your sweat makes your clothes stick to your body. No thanks. You can also do them all far better in spring or fall.

[-] Echolynx@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 month ago

Heat index was about 42°C and humid today. Just being outside for 30 seconds was miserable, let alone walking. Can't even think about any outdoor activities.

Here in Australia I'm hosting a snow trip next week.. there is still no snow in the mountains where we're goin

Also f summer. Hayfever and bushfires suck

[-] Janx@piefed.social 8 points 1 month ago

Being a "summer lover" means I hate cold and love sunlight. It doesn't mean I wanted the burning hellscape we're all going to have to get used to. Wish we had listened to climate scientists and taken action...

I can easily survive temps in the around 35-37 C with just a fan and ice.

You haven't lived until you've jerry rigged the front grill of your fan with tubing; using a cooler full of ice water and gravity to circulate cold water through the tubing to create a poor man's AC.

If it was up to me the AC would get 1-3 weeks of use. My wife wants the AC; and what baby wants, baby gets.

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

I can easily survive temps in the around 35-37 C with just a fan and ice.

Human and animal safety: High wet-bulb temperatures impair the body's ability to cool itself, increasing the risk of heatstroke and hyperthermia. A WBT above 35°C (95°F) is considered critical, beyond which even healthy individuals can survive only a few hours without cooling. Recent studies suggest dangerous conditions may occur at lower thresholds, around 31°C (87.8°F) in humid environments

My wife wants the AC

The only season I can enjoy outside is Fall. Summer is too hot, Winter is too cold, and I get allergies in the Spring.

Fall is perfect.
