A bit of cat tax. It’s been a while.

[-] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 5 points 3 days ago

This is good precariously positioned cat tax.

[-] StudChud@aussie.zone 2 points 3 days ago

Purrfectly balanced

Went to the museum. The kids wanted to go but I'm not really into it anymore. The "new" museum doesn't really do it for me the way the old one did. I like the history of Melbourne display, pharlap and the outside forest bit but to me it's just a cavernous space with convention centre vibes.

[-] Taleya@aussie.zone 2 points 3 days ago

big time. The wonderful victorian feel of the old museum was such a vibe

Bunch of oldies from the area were out strolling today through our court (it connects to the parklands behind our house). A group of them decided to walk down the street, despite there being a footpath. Fine whatever.

I was driving back from the shops not in a hurry, so let it go.

Then they decide to stop and have a chinwag at my driveway. I gave them a beep beep, they ignored me. So I pressed the horn pretty hard.

One of the old chaps walked to my car and told me I'm being a bit rude, I told him not to block driveways. He started carrying on so I just held the horn until he waddled off.

They don't live on our court, so I'm not fussed, but fuck me, where is the decency.

Some oldies just don't give a shit about anyone but themselves. There are always exceptions, but those dorks in your driveway are not that. Just twat behaviour shit.

Funnily, I had a similar experience when I went for a walk yesterday. On Sydney Road footpath, and idk I walk fast? So I tend to overtake window-shoppers/slow walkers where I can. Not in a rush, just walk fast πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ overtook three oldies walking three abreast (so taking up the majority of the footpath). Heard them talking shit "what's her rush?" and "how impatient and disrespectful". I just shot them a stink eye lol.

Should have mooned them to show what actual disrespect looks like lol

Edited out redundant language lol

[-] MeanElevator@aussie.zone 6 points 4 days ago

I give very little fucks, and entitled oldies will get a serve from me.

Had one try to cut in line at Woolies once saying 'It will only be a moment', i just said 'No, you'll wait your turn like everyone else' and just ignored them after.

If they're blocking an aisle with a trolley, the trolley gets moved.

[-] mertn22@aussie.zone 3 points 3 days ago

Oldie here but well aware of traffic. I would be well out of the way in case the youngie decided to flatten me without even a beep beep.

[-] MeanElevator@aussie.zone 1 points 3 days ago

I appreciate a lot of oldies. Hell, my mum is pushing 80 (lives overseas) and would never dare to do anything so brash.

Thank you for being aware and keeping safe.

So after doing it last year, I'm being asked to stay overnight at the kids' band camp again this year. Only I was wrong a year ago: it was Sunday Night > Monday morning. As I predicted, I got insufficient sleep that night and went from the band camp straight to work the next day. It sucked.

I don't especially want to do it, but I'm being guilted by the whole "Sadly, we won't be able to proceed with the overnight stay if this spot remains empty" bit of the email. I'll hold back a little and hope another dad steps up this year. And if I do end up caving, I'll be taking that Monday off.

Flat sheet or no flat sheet?

I am on team flat sheet.

[-] Catfish@aussie.zone 5 points 3 days ago

For the bottom or top? Top totally, bottom fuck right off with your hospital corners.

Fitted + Flat. Doona for winter, wool blankets for summer.

Team flat sheet on top, and either fitted or flat underneath. I have an aircell blankie under the doona for winter, over the flat sheet on top. Comfy and flexible. The undersheet I really don't give a damn as both are functional, but flat sheets are MUCH easier to wash (and dry!) than fitted and in winter that does make a difference so flat sheet is easier to wrangle at this time of year. In summer when washing them is easy then fitted as the undersheet is preferable as cooler and less likely to get into a sweaty tangle.

[-] Pilk@aussie.zone 4 points 3 days ago

Fitted and flat. Means you don't need to wrangle with changing the doona cover so frequently, and you have something to lightly cover you on hot days.

[-] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 3 points 3 days ago

I love a flat sheet. Unfortunately for me, somehow the man manages to wrap it around his legs during the night which annoys me, so no more flat sheet for me. πŸ˜”

[-] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 3 points 3 days ago

I used to be on team no flat sheet. But then I got annoyed at changing the cover on my king size quilt and annoyed at fitted sheets that were cut too small to actually fit the mattress, and I am currently on team 'three flat sheets and a doona' and I use a flat sheet on the mattress and on top & bottom of the uncovered doona. It would be a perfect system if Mr Woof didn't insist on pulling everything apart and piling it into the middle of the bed, but there is nothing I have been able to find so far that is able to resist that.

I hate flat sheets anywhere on or in the bed. I overheat so easily under a doona already, I don't need another layer to add to my sleep discomfort.

And flat sheet on fitted sheet sucks too because I just end up tangled in it, leaving me all twisted and contorted by morning.

I prefer the flat sheet under the fitted sheet; makes the bed feel more comfy. Doona for winter, and a blanket for summer is enough for me lol

I generated 4 x my pay in profit in 6 weeks for the company which employs me. (About 1/3rd my yearly salary).

They didn't say much because they know how much I leverage that gives me.

So last night I got "food poisoning".

Was nice to sleep in lol

[-] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 6 points 4 days ago

Funny how we have to remind the places we work at about these sorts of details and they never bring it up for us themselves

[-] Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 6 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

If they did, they'd have to acknowledge that the effort/remuneration ratio is absolute bullshit.

But that's OK. What matters is that I know. And so will other orgs down the track.

[-] Taleya@aussie.zone 5 points 4 days ago

I busted my arse end of year getting something in over the line. Talking 20 hour days by the end.

not even a thank you. So now they get what I feel like.

This is the way. No matter how "nicely" you are treated by your employer, they will remove you the moment you become an inconvenience.

[-] Taleya@aussie.zone 3 points 3 days ago

if you died right now, they'd post your job opening before your obituary

[-] Catfish@aussie.zone 5 points 4 days ago

I don't generate income, but I fairly regularly have things on my desk worth double or triple my annual. It's nice to pet the pretty things.

[-] Taleya@aussie.zone 5 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

fuck me dead, bunnings are now running ads on their site.

sorry sponsored content

(look up "angle grinder")

[-] mertn22@aussie.zone 4 points 3 days ago

I think that Bunnings last week decided to use AI to help you shop. You may have run into that scourge.

[-] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 3 points 3 days ago

I have wondered how much it would cost them if people started just chatting to their AI bot. Last week I engaged the Bunnings bot in a lengthy discussion on the merits of mulching the shelves in the lounge room (it wasn't a fan of the idea initially, but I think I won it over).

We cannot escape the adpocalypse

[-] Taleya@aussie.zone 5 points 3 days ago

the whole fucking site is an ad though!

[-] StudChud@aussie.zone 4 points 3 days ago

Oh the adpocalypse has been happening for a long, long time now. It isn't on the way, it's here bby!

I hate ads because it's so fucking fake, ubiquitous, and corporate. All to line the pockets of investors who are so far removed from the average person that it seeps into everything.

I've got a workshop to present at this conference and then I'm pretty much done for the week. Nice!

[-] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 5 points 4 days ago

In that awkward situation where someone at work has been recommended to me as a connection on LinkedIn and they have the "Open to work" badge on their profile. I shouldn't say anything to anyone but you know they're looking to leave at some point

Next time you see them do the finger guns thing lol

[-] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 3 points 3 days ago

They're one of the sales team that's interstate. This could be the last time I see them in person

[-] StudChud@aussie.zone 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)
