You see, that's why OP always carries a second phone: To photograph the first one not falling into the gutter

[-] SouthEndSunset@piefed.blahaj.zone 50 points 1 month ago

How often are you dropping your phone into a street drain?

[-] 69420@lemmy.world 110 points 1 month ago

Quite a lot actually. It has that stupid handle on it so it doesn't ft in my pocket.

[-] WalrusDragonOnABike@reddthat.com 9 points 1 month ago

Yeah, it was forty-nine times, and now it might be waiting for you.

Aren't these a very popular accessory?

[-] kn33@lemmy.world 20 points 1 month ago

That's much less reliable tbh

[-] Lag@piefed.world 7 points 1 month ago

I've used it on a motorcycle attachment for a long trip before. The same pop socket was then attached to a new phone and used for another 2 years. Maybe I lucked out with that model or it just sticks to flat cases better.

[-] lightnsfw@reddthat.com 14 points 1 month ago

The idea of having my phone exposed while riding a motorcycle is freaking me out. Like... My hands got sweaty after reading that.

[-] Lag@piefed.world 6 points 1 month ago

I completely understand. Before this I actually taped my phone below the motorcycle dash which was scarier because I had to reuse the tape again on the way back and it was coming off. I think it was a Note 2 at the time and those things were huge.

As are other more structurally sound models.

Does a phone count as a flared base?

It also doesn't fit in your pocket. How convenient.

Put it down your underwear and make it look like you've got a hard on all the time

TBF, maybe they wear women's pants. A pack of gum wouldn't fit in those pockets.

Clip to a carabiner on your belt loop

[-] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 month ago

Says you, I mostly use my jacket pockets for my phone. My jacket pockets are large and deep so I could probably shove like 3 of these things into one pocket, my jacket is a surplus Czech Military field jacket.

It doesn't usually go down the grate, it goes down the big hole

[-] grandel@lemmy.ml 9 points 1 month ago

It's trying to escape.

[-] diabetic_porcupine@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

I read that in a slow writing voice and heard pencil scratches

[-] Baguette 5 points 1 month ago

If you are prone to dropping your phone I suggest a strap. It sticks out of the port area and you can just tighten it against your wrist

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

I was thinking one of those extendo Keychain things, but glued to the front of your phone

You could clip it to your, I don't know, airport or quarry.

[-] Baguette 3 points 1 month ago

Looks like this, there's a bunch but this is the one I have. Short enough to be useful without being annoying imo

You could probably clip it to your belt, maybe a different one with a larger clip would work

I think I'll be able to empathize with extraterrestrial alien religious rituals first before I can empathize with people who modify carefully crafted ergonomics of their phones with cases and stupid shit like this.

"Oh, my phone needs that ugly ass round thingy and a transparent case that turns yellow within a month because I tend to drop it"

How... How about NOT DROPPING IT??? The beautifully crafted materials of your phone, that beautiful glass, the thinness... all of that is gone because you decided to slap a cheap ass case on it...

[-] bequirtle@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago

carefully crafted ergonomics

..it's a rectangle.

You're carrying a very expensive device full of highly sensitive data that for many people is their primary computer that contains their digital life.

It is made out of easily damaged materials like glass and aluminium that don't offer much grip because they are smooth, and the shape doesn't offer much grip because it is so thin.

And you think: "Should I put a cheap protective case on this in case I drop it or it gets damaged? Should I take the most basic precaution to look after this expensive and fragile thing that I carry with me wherever I go?"

"No - that would spoil the way it looks."

WHAT?? These flat slippery rectangles ARE NOT ergonomic at all until user inserts it into an ergonomic case of their choosing.

[-] Caducous@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

You are gooning over a rectangle

The only useful phone case design I've seen. I bet it'll be ADA compliant if applied for.

[-] M137@lemmy.today 3 points 1 month ago

Ha ing it diagonal like that means you can only use one hand in horizontal mode and only the other hand in vertical mode (if you have your fingers inside the handle).
