Lost some weight recently and then when I mentioned planning to lose more to a doctor she said not to bother as I am already better than most people around here. BMI was still middle of overweight at the time. Down 12kg now, a few more would be nice.

Really weird for a doctor to talk like that. Obesity is more or less human health public enemy number one these days, feels crazy to be like "yeah nah you need to be more complacent"

Yeah it felt pretty strange to hear it tbh

12KG is a lot! I've recently lost 6KG and I had to saw off a limb! Nice work on improving your health ๐Ÿ˜

This is the country where 14 units of alcohol a week is considered "low risk". Drinking and eating fried stuff is the national pastime.

I thought ranting against cycle lanes was the national pastime? It's no longer legal to discriminate against people for their skin colour, but you can hate them for trying to get some exercise as they travel.

Yeah, they do that while drinking and eating.

Had a 1400kcal meal recently - over 2000kcal after drinks, it didn't even feel overly filling. Wtf are they putting in this to be so many kcal and not fill you?

I can easily see that leading to obesity if you eat it on any vaguely common frequency. With how many people I know that look at me strangely because I don't eat a takeaway or at a pub at least once a week, I get the impression many people are eating that an awful lot.

What's in it? Engineered food, owned by the companies that used to market tobacco. See

I don't like the relative "3 times as common as smoking" in the title. It could just mean that less and less people are smoking and be a good stat. Or the reverse. But by itself it's just misleading.

Because it's cheaper to go to McDonalds than it is to get a decent home-cooked meal. If you want to fix obesity, make it easier and cheaper to cook and eat a home-cooked meal.

It isn't anymore, McDonald's costs quite a bit more these days. It does require infinitely less effort though, and is very appealing when you are permanently exhausted by modern life and have very little time to make home cooked meals
