Family ties to Alsace go back five hundred years. Two generations ago some moved to the US to avoid the, let's say troubles, between the region and France after WW1. Those that are there reported their gardens simply shriveling. Unbearable heat they only escaped in their cellars. So much smog and traffic because people were trying to a) get into AC in their car and B) get to the mountains.

These are the ripple effects often underreported. 1,000 deaths of the exposed and the elderly is bad. Quite. But there is so much more danger and disruption than we encounter in the reporting.
