Well.. Luigi was right
He was right, wasn’t he? Feels good to say it in a place where I won’t get banned for expressing it. Luigi was right.
He did the right thing but not enough times.
In a civilized county we would have broken him out by now.
I'm gonna be perfectly honest, I didn't think ANY Americans could afford healthcare.
I hope somebody liberates that country. I feel sorry for poor everyday Americans. It's like north Korea.
Well, they said that half struggled to afford it. They didn’t mention how many didn’t have a chance of affording it.
Right. I’m not struggling to afford it. I just don’t have any lol.
Close to 10% of our population dont have any health insurance at all. Nearly 30 million.
AT LEAST 15% is uninsured, dont know about being on medicaid/care though.
I’ve had insurance through my employers since I was 18 years old. For the first time in my life I opted out since it was cheaper to pay out of pocket than pay the premiums for my entire family. The worst part is I work for a healthcare organization making almost 3 times the national average.
different plans might be better for some people. i assume you dont ahve dental or paying that out of pocket?
dental costs are even worst than healthcare because its mostly not covered even if you buy different dental insurance.
Actually my employer does pay for dental and vision. They used to offer medical but like with everything, they decided employees should pay a percentage of it but it’s too expensive just to have it for checkups
My endometriosis medication is $1000 a month in the US. I can't afford to change jobs.
I'm so sorry. I wouldn't wish endo on my worst enemy. It is a hell that anyone who hasn't experienced cannot understand.
My meds were $1300 a month without insurance. It required pre-authorization from the insurance that needed to be redone every 6 months and I could only get 28 days filled at a time, but it only cost me something like $20. The side effects were awful, but not nearly as awful as the alternative.
I'm eternally grateful for the fact that after years of pain and begging dismissive doctors to treat me I found an amazing surgeon who went "why are you still dealing with this when you don't want kids, you want a hysterectomy, I'll do one" and by some miracle my insurance company also approved it without arguing about it. I also got lucky that I had my initial visit just before my employer's year end open enrollment for insurance, so I did the math and figured out that I'd save a lot of money if I switched for the year to the higher premium/low deductible insurance they offered. My entire surgery, pre-surgery labs, pre surgery surgeon visits, prescription and OTC medications, and other little stuff I needed for recovery all cost me less than $1000 total.
The surgery was hands down the best thing that ever happened to me.
biologics are expensive but my dermatologist recently reccomended a biologic for atopic dermatitis, because how extensive and and severe it was. i checked on peoples experience trying to get the injections, they have to go through a whole slew of pre-auth(taking more generic drugs, testings)
That's great. I'll probably end up going down the same route. Hormonal suppression is the only thing that works for my pain so getting my ovaries out will probably be the only thing that works in the end.
Good luck! I still have my ovaries and so I still have some pain, but it's so minor compared to what I used to be living with (like a 3-5/10 instead of a 9-10/10 on a daily basis) and not having to deal with bleeding 3 weeks out of the month is life changing.
Here in West Europe (differs per country):
- mandatory health insurance, ~1200 euros per year (low income households are eligible for a subsidy)
- deductible of about 300 euros per year
- after that, healthcare and medicines are covered
- secondary costs (e.g. dietary costs or travel costs) may be tax deductible
GSK, glaxo kiline smith is a british pharm company, andrew witty was past ceo of thiers they make bank in america, that they couldnt in the UK apparently.
That sounds so much nicer than the system we have.
have you checked costplus, mark cubans site. or goodrx? if its a specialty drug it might be more difficult.
I have checked everything. There are no alternatives yet. It's fairly new, less than 10 years old and it's for women's pelvic pain which healthcare never seems to prioritize.
I'm surprised you can afford anything in that shithole of a country after Fascism teasers got put in power.
us spent it all on DEFENSE BUDGET.
Really, just now learning that? Lol
It’s a badge of honor to have a job with benefits you can’t pay for!
—- maga probably.
Now do people not struggling to afford healthcare because they've given up on the idea of affording healthcare at all and don't even bother
It's a feature, not a bug. Healthcare and insurance companies exist for and only care about profits.
If people are struggling to afford healthcare it means their prices are right where they want them.
I can't even get easily accessible mental healthcare under my employers insurance (UHC). I tried calling the in network GP line and they said mental health services are technically out of network under my plan. So I use UHCs "find a provider" section on their dogshit website. One result, I call the number, it's disconnected.
I widen my search, sift away the counselors with shitty reviews, find a couple that could be an ok match. More disconnected numbers, and the only number that wasn't disconnected just dumps me into a voicemail. God I fucking hate it so much. UHC really, really doesn't want people seeking out mental healthcare.
mental care seems very tricky for any insurance in general. the ones insurances in my area is very hesitent to refer to these professionals and prescribe the meds, since they can be abused/trafficked they require extra authorization.
One of the myriad reasons I fled the US last year.
I'm surprised it's not more.
I'm guessing that like unemployment, you just aren't counted in the numbers if you are too far beyond struggle. Not so much as a check-up in 10+ years? Must be perfectly healthy! No? Uh...
The average healthcare plan is 18k a yr per person. So that is a start.
My family plan for 4 is 36k a yr
i bought a individual plan for the first time ACA, and was quite surprised families pay alot more for OPM, and deductibles. because i made just enough money not to qualify for state subsidized care. tried changing work hours to strategize it, but manager was giving attitude and refuse a change.
Only reason I’ve been to a clinic or a hospital in the last year was because my wrist hurt so much I had to. And that I work in EVS so I clean the damn place.
I just don't afford health care at this point.
Maybe they will struggle out and vote next time.
