Whenever the weather is sunny, it makes it much more difficult for me to find motivation to go outside and do things. I hate the bright sun in my eyes. I also hate how the heat gets trapped in vehicles when the sun shines into them, making them less pleasant to be in.

On the other hand, the cloudy days are a lot more relaxing, and result in cooler temperatures that are more pleasant to exist in and don't wear me down. The light is much more even when the sun isn't in the way, eliminating the need for sunglasses.

Sure, the sun helps you make Vitamin D, but we have food and supplements. If Mr. Blue Sky by ELO is really the happiest song, it should be about cloudy days. :P Don't make me a deity in charge of the weather unless you want cloudy days for the rest of your life.

I like spring sun and cool air. That's an almost magical combination for me.

But summer sun can be downright obnoxious. Too hot, and too damn bright. Cloudy summer days are great because of the things you said, and summer rain is maybe even better.

Ooo it's so bright and cold for me today. Needed a spring jacket and sun screen

As a autumn person (and a vehemently summer hater)I agree strongly. So, take my downvote! (just kidding 😉)

I associate summer sunshine with allergies, busy social events, stuffy nights… I am absolutely a winter person.

I had to stop myself from downvoting you from sheer outrage, so you've got the right community!

I'm so much happier in sunny weather. I'm jealous that you enjoy it being overcast.

This reads like the most British comment on the internet today

[-] Lumisal@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

Nah, they said they like it.

To me it reads American because it sounds like there's a lack of public transportation and abundance of cement seas (parking lots)

Same. The sun is a deadly laser, and fog is very pleasant on the skin.

Driech is my favourite Scots word and my favourite Scottish weather.

[-] Resonosity@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 days ago

Yep this is also how I feel!

And really, overcast days are my favorite. Best of both worlds.

As a person living in the PNW I could not disagree more. I have sensory issues, especially with bright light so I live in sunnies and hats but once you live where it’s almost always overcast or worse you learn gratitude for the sun

Funny, as a person living in the PNW myself I couldn't agree more with OP. Those couple months we get of blazing heat (80°F, 27°C) are just the worst to me.

The only part of summer I enjoy is the effect it has on fashion choices.

[-] CultLeader4Hire@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

I don’t even consider 80 hot!

I’m offended. But fr, it sucks when it’s all sun. Especially in the summer.

I live in a place that has extremely hot summers. Aside from the sweat, the worst thing I hate about a hot sunny day is the smell that sticks to you after being under the sun even just for a couple of minutes. I don’t how to describe it other than smelling like the sun. It’s doesn’t stink per se, but I hate how it sticks to you and your clothes until you shower again.

[-] observantTrapezium@lemmy.ca 1 points 5 days ago

Similar sentiment but for a completely different reason: as a Canadian I love our short summer. Cloudy and dreary summer days don't give me FOMO when I choose or have to stay indoors instead of spending time outside.

[-] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

If it absolutely has to be summer, give me a raging thunderstorm pleeeease.

I like them both for different reasons.

[-] paraplu@piefed.social 1 points 5 days ago

It somewhat depends on the season for me. Summer and fall absolutely give me cloudy. Spring I probably want cloudy too, but only if there's no snow.

Winter I'd massively prefer sunny.

It also depends what I'm trying to do. If I'm trying to talk friends into enjoying the outdoors with me it can be way easier with sun.

I'm not sure I agree with your sunglasses bit. When it's sunny it's often easier to not look at the sun. When it's cloudy the whole sky can be too bright, which is a bit harder to not look at.

Welcome to the Unpopular Opinion community!

How voting works:

Vote the opposite of the norm.

If you agree that the opinion is unpopular give it an arrow up. If it's something that's widely accepted, give it an arrow down.

Guidelines:

Tag your post, if possible (not required)

  • If your post is a "General" unpopular opinion, start the subject with [GENERAL].
  • If it is a Lemmy-specific unpopular opinion, start it with [LEMMY].

Rules:

1. NO POLITICS

Politics is everywhere. Let's make this about [general] and [lemmy] - specific topics, and keep politics out of it.

2. Be civil.

Disagreements happen, but that doesn’t provide the right to personally attack others. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Please also refrain from gatekeeping others' opinions.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Shitposts and memes are allowed but...

Only until they prove to be a problem. They can and will be removed at moderator discretion.

5. No trolling.

This shouldn't need an explanation. If your post or comment is made just to get a rise with no real value, it will be removed. You do this too often, you will get a vacation to touch grass, away from this community for 1 or more days. Repeat offenses will result in a perma-ban.

6. Defend your opinion

This is a bit of a mix of rules 4 and 5 to help foster higher quality posts. You are expected to defend your unpopular opinion in the post body. We don't expect a whole manifesto (please, no manifestos), but you should at least provide some details as to why you hold the position you do.

Instance-wide rules always apply. https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/
