Yeah but you gotta be a child to believe that the privileged ever face justice.

[-] tooks@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

I'm a little behind, have we collectively prayed for the 168 dead children yet?

[-] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago

I liked a facebook post, that's worth one love&prayer

[-] blargh513@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 day ago

We haven't even gotten to the part with the thoughts.

[-] UnexpectedBehavior@lemmy.world 111 points 3 days ago

And also Iran would still have had no nuclear bomb

[-] FatVegan@leminal.space 28 points 3 days ago

And less desire to own nuclear bombs. Can't blame them if they want nukea that can reach the fatland now

Not that USA has any more of a justified reason to have nukes vs Iran especially after threatening to exterminate them.

[-] fonix232@fedia.io 16 points 3 days ago

But hey, at least the agreement preventing them from having a nuclear weapon is no longer under Obama's name! Ain't that great?

[-] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 49 points 2 days ago

CHILDREN, not students.

Students can be adults.

It was 168 little kids.

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

CHILDREN, not students.

Children attending a girl's school at the time of the bombing. The iconic photo of the incident was blood-splattered backpacks. I'd say "student" is spot on.

Also kinda flies in the face of the endless White Nationalist propaganda, insisting women in Iran are all prisoners in their own homes and treated as chattel to be sold off for profit by their parents. These girls were slaughtered, in no small part, because the American military feared that they would grow up to join the Iranian professional class. By becoming doctors and teachers and engineers - perhaps even nuclear scientists - they posed the same existential risk to American Hegemony that Cuban doctors and South African teachers and Chinese engineers present.

It was 168 little kids.

It was 168 future Iranian adults. Future patriots who might continue the project of the 1979 Revolution in defiance of a Global US Hegemony. Future members of the intelligensia who might contribute to the Iranian economy and polity. Future mothers to the next generation of Iranians.

Just like with Palestine, the murder of kids is paramount to the project of ethnically cleansing a nation. Especially if the children are in a position to one day become peers of and competitors to your nation's own children.

I won't pretend Iran is the beginning, but I predict that the American embrace of genocidal policy will continue to spread - west and south of Syria and Libya, north and east of Iran - until every member of the Global South is once again put into their place or exterminated.

[-] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

Huh? No one is arguing the facts. It's the rhetoric in the post that is being commented on.

[-] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 49 points 2 days ago

I agree.

They'd also be alive if our two ruling parties didn't have the same positions on Israel and hiding the Epstein Files.

[-] underisk@lemmy.ml 20 points 2 days ago

Yeah, Biden had the files too. It’s not like there’s any shortage of Israel worshipping Iran warhawks on the dem side, either.

Things might have been a little different but I doubt they’d be as different as OP thinks.

[-] Sixtyforce@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Biden did nothing in reaction to a Coup attempt and scapegoated Garland. Nobody bats an eye at that, it's insane. I think the federal court seal on Epstein Files is true to an extent but that wasn't the only thing they could've taken Trump down with. They chose to punish nobody important for Jan 6th, emboldening the new confederates.

[-] KelvarCherry@piefed.blahaj.zone 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Biden also could have said "fuck the seal" and declassified and published them anyways. Even if they were later retracted and deleted from the DOJ website, the internet would share them around.

Of course Joe Biden and the wider DNC didn't want those documents released, because they would implicate big Democrat donors and create mass-disillusionment. They got released now as a way to spite Trump, and perhaps because whatever disarray they incited would be under Trump's rule... or perhaps because Democrats correctly determined that the USA wasn't going to riot or enact a mass-strike or do anything "radical" after learning that their entire life has been played by billionaire sex-trafficking child-raping baby-eating pedophiles </3

[-] Sixtyforce@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 days ago

You very well could be right, I'm not American so I'm less intimate with their legal system. My main point was just that there were (and still will be) so many paths to putting the pedo in prison and Dems simply didn't even try to.

[-] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 12 points 2 days ago

It's almost like the two parties work together and hold a monopoly on our political system. A duopoly, if you will.

[-] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

Biden had the files too.

"The Epstein files were not released during the Biden administration (2021–2025) primarily because they were under strict federal court seals related to ongoing criminal investigations and the appeal of Ghislaine Maxwell."

Google is your friend if you know how to use it. Stop spreading misinformation online. You are being part of the problem.

[-] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

Biden could have tested the powers the Supreme Court handed him and done so anyway, calling it an official act.

But since he was utterly spineless and pretended to respect the law as long as the law wasn't preventing him from selling weapons for genocide, he didn't.

[-] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago

Oh yeah that thing where the state doesn't prosecute hundreds of criminals because it's prosecuting one. Yes totally normal.

[-] underisk@lemmy.ml 10 points 2 days ago

Epstien's flight logs were publicly released during the Ghislaine Maxwell trial which occured before he ever took office. The FBI raided Little Saint James in 2019. But sure, lets pretend the president had absolutely no idea about it because they didn't publicly release a folder labeled "The Epstien Files" while he was in office.

Honestly I'm not upset gas got expensive, I kinda hope it goes higher still. Short term pain, long term gain. Everything else though, yeah. sigh

[-] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 34 points 3 days ago

This is basically the dumbest way imaginable to move away from oil though.

Yes capitalism is the dumbest system possible. Literally destroying the planet so a few dickheads can ride yachts.

[-] Bytemeister@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

TBF, the only worse option is to not move away from oil at all...

Oil getting expensive makes everything expensive. If it was just the price at the pump I might agree with you.

[-] WalrusDragonOnABike@reddthat.com 27 points 3 days ago

Stuff is still underpriced all of the environmental devastation required to produce them via fossil fuels.

https://truthout.org/articles/top-biden-official-supports-trump-iran-attack-says-biden-may-have-done-the-same/

Not sure it works that way. Great man theory is not a great model for how history unfolds. The third reich didn't end because Hitler died, Hitler died because the third reich ended. Saying the US illegally attacked Iran because of Trump has the same depth of analysis as saying the murder of Franz Ferdinand is why WWI happened.

Also, the word is children

[-] FlyingCircus@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

Agreed. This war happened because Iran supplies a large quantity of oil to China, and the oligarchs are fucking terrified of the rise of communism and the implications it has for their way of life. This war and the attack on Venezuela are both part of the encirclement strategy that capitalists are employing in an attempt to choke China’s economy before the west is eclipsed.

They’ve left it too late though, China’s green revolution will soon free them and the global south from the capitalist oil hegemony.

[-] CoolSouthpaw@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago

Fake news conservative media has had a part to play in leading us here. Fucking pieces of shit.

[-] 1dalm@lemmy.today 10 points 2 days ago

COVID likely would not have become a global pandemic, and president Pence would likely be in the middle of his third presidential term if Republicans in Congress had the moral spine to impeach him in January 2020.

[-] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

"But that's communism!"

[-] cabillaud@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

By the way, the US miltary didn't give one of their stupid names for this war? No operation "Magnificent Freedom" or "Infinite Peace" for this butchery?

[-] mirshafie@europe.pub 3 points 1 day ago
[-] Burninator05@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

And remember that "Epic Fury" is over so they can skirt Congress. Anything for the next 60 days is "Sledgehammer".

[-] mirshafie@europe.pub 2 points 1 day ago

Midnight Hammer last year, Sledgehammer this year. Someone likes getting hammered.

[-] brachiosaurus@mander.xyz 17 points 2 days ago

The world would be a better place with this pedophile in jail but don't assume US wouldn't have start another war without him.

Or if zionism was actively resisted as a genocidal ideology.

I feel I should say something profound and witty about this.

But really I find the course this country is on depressing. Democracy is slipping away and at every turn I keep thinking even the republicans have to admit it's gone too far, but no, they are okay with it.

I know that historically we have done some really evil things, but I'd thought we were past that.

I keep thinking of a clip I saw of musk saying how empathy was a sickness.

We are a country full of monsters pretending to be human.

[-] MnemonicBump@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 3 days ago

I know that historically we have done some really evil things, but I'd thought we were past that.

The whole point of "Never Forget" was to remind us that we can never be passed that. The Nazis weren't monsters, they were human beings. Human beings are capable of incredible atrocities, and we need to constantly remind ourselves of that. Make it the foundation of our whole society. But unfortunately the average person in unable to see past their own lifetime, and therefore sees no point in doing anything that could affect real change for future generations.
