I used to watch How to Cook That, I enjoyed watching a food scientist debunk stupid "cooking hacks". Then after years of normal content she started preaching Bible verses at the end of cooking videos and selling Bibles. Looking into it I find out her husband, who is in the videos a lot, preaches at a church known to be vocally homophobic.

First time I saw that shit was the last time I watched her videos.

its either that or they switch to being a right wing grifter. i used to follow some asian youtubers that discuss news and joke about it, during the pandemic they became magaty, after using mysogyny as a defense after firing a female employee who was there a long time (10years) and alienating the other female employees. then someone compiled thier history on youtube and social media(they were former fans), and pieced together of past employees and it made sense, and thier propensity to have a token black guy on the channel.

I have never seen that, probably due to my use of sponsorblock. RIP.

That might have worked, but it was full on reading scripture before the ad started. Really put me off

[-] Zizzy 3 points 2 weeks ago

Wow, I hadn't watched her stuff in a while, because I got the point that Five-Minute Hacks is a bad channel, etc. Didn't realize it went in that direction.

I liked to hate watch Facebook slop just because it was so crazy sometimes, so watching someone legitimately give the recipes a go was amusing. Not amusing enough to listen to religious content that I have a bad history with and cptsd involving it.

I unsubbed and blocked mrwhostheboss tonight for exactly this reason.

To me, it's just been mindless, trite stuff to have on while I clean. Honestly, I won't miss it.

Channels that have been going overboard with AI-generated thumbnails have also started to get under my skin. Mostly it's news-related content.

When he started buying from Temu, Wish etc (I think for a video making something for his sister) and being completely uncritical, was the breaking point for me.

Andrew Price aka blender guru has been getting a lot of heat for this one recently, it might be him the meme is referring to.

I followed this channel called "best ever food review show" for years, it was a lot of fun. Then they hosted Joe Rogan on it and I havent looked back. The only power you have as a consumer is to stop consuming 🤷‍♂️

[-] Zizzy 7 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, i did the exact same thing

[-] 87Six@lemmy.zip 16 points 2 weeks ago

Or because they turn into kid slop

(I. E. They talk like crazy, do weird loud edits, that sort of bs)

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

I refer to that as Mr Beastification

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 8 points 2 weeks ago

or the kurtz guy who tried to justify AI generated statements. Its either AI or peddling right wing grifting.

[-] HootinNHollerin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 weeks ago

Easy decision

SandRhoman History is flirting with an unsub for this reason. They used to have charming art with slightly crude animation but now I think they have a mix of human art and AI animation. I like their stuff because they tend to focus on the less sexy stuff like the logistics of medieval armies.

[-] Akasazh@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

For now they get a pass. The sloppyness doesn't infringe on the content and if Ai can more easily animate heads on period uniforms than the time the rotated 20-odd heads with slightly less period-correct outfits it doesn't impact things for me.

I'm not that visually engaged, though, and loved their simpler content (like bazzbattles, too). If they start skimping ont the research, though, it will draw the line.

I was looking up a video review of some safety glasses (crazy night I know) and one of the videos was entirely AI, which is annoying but is becoming common. I'm sure they didn't even buy them.

But then I saw a video I assumed was AI because the thumbnail was clearly an AI man wearing them. But then the preview showed a real regular person. Brother... you have the fucking glasses and a face and footage of you wearing them.. just use that!

My fav train ytber adam something is still going strong despite having terrible sponsors.

I used to listen to Unexplained Mysteries to fall asleep, and because it was pretty good at covering whatever strange photos/videos were going viral, but it became so clear that they were just plugging a headline into an LLM and using that to stretch it out to 10 minutes that I had to unsub.

It just repeats the same couple statements over and over with slight variation while cycling through a three frame slide show.
