The other time should be deleted before I posted this one, because I forgot the "40s"

My bank account and accomplishments say I'm 25. Check & mate.

[-] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago

40 is the new bankrupt

Forty was fine. I didn't feel old at all and was in a decent place mentally. I'm now 49, and I have a feeling 50 is going to be somewhat jarring. It just feels undeniably mature.

[-] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 2 points 9 hours ago

I'm mid forties now and I'm preparing for battle

[-] YeahIgotskills2@lemmy.world 3 points 14 hours ago

'Reality hits you hard, bro'

I'm like one of the youngest millenials... Still a long way to go thank you very much!

[-] Sprinks@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago

Right? Im part of the youngest millenials and i turn 30 in a few months. Its been a fucking wild experience being stuck between two generations.

[-] AFallingAnvil@lemmy.ca 1 points 9 hours ago

30 in a couple months, not ready but at least I got a house so I can feel mildly like I have my shit together.

[-] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 2 points 8 hours ago

Lmao house at 30 yeah you're doing fine my friend

[-] CultLeader4Hire@lemmy.world 10 points 21 hours ago

Gen x'er here, weren't y'all like starting things in 1981....wouldn't that make you comingup on a different decade? (I'll take my rotten tomatoes now, high velocity please)

[-] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 1 points 8 hours ago

That can't be right, that would mean I'm actually getting older

[-] LavaPlanet@sh.itjust.works 3 points 7 hours ago

Getting older isn't a real thing. Your outsides just get really crinkly from sleeping on them so much.

[-] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 1 points 8 minutes ago

One too many baths

Reminder that your generation contains all the best and worst of humanity, like other generations, and is not a like collective.

Leading up to my recent 40th, I went on a little tour of contacting people to tie up loose ends/seek closure where it was lacking. It was really helpful, even though at least one person worried I was planning to kill myself.

[-] katzimir@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago

the person worrying about you sounds like a great person

[-] drunkpostdisaster@lemmy.world 5 points 20 hours ago

I won't be able to handle the embarrassment of being where I am while being 40.

[-] FunStuffIsFun@eviltoast.org 15 points 1 day ago

40 has already caught me, but its OK because I still kick ass.

My father referred to me as 'almost 40' the other day, which I deemed rude so I called him 'almost 60', which he also deemed rude.

[-] ThunderQueen@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

Oldest end of gen z, staring down the barrel of 30. Low key excited but still a lot to process lmao

[-] Multiplexer@discuss.tchncs.de 41 points 1 day ago

Most of the Millenials I know have even already the scary 50 approaching from behind.

But that's some kind of observation bias, as I am GenX and interestingly know almost no people born between 1990 and 2000.

But I know a bunch of GenZ again who currently look like deer with big, wide open eyes at the approaching headlights of the "30" truck, which imho is much worse than the 40...

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 13 hours ago

Hell no. 30 was just the "oh I'm a real adult now" realisation. 40 is middle age.

Most people you know are not "millennials", 1976 is not even close to a millennial birthdate lmfao

At some point, every person born in the 20th century while be classified as a millennial.

[-] Multiplexer@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 1 day ago

Most people you know are not “millennials”

Where did I say that?

I only stated that the Millennials I know are of the pre-1990 type, and these totally exist.
(Hello, my beloved Millennial-wife, if you happen to read this! :-) )

I'm gen Z and I'm less than two years from thirty. The years do keep coming, and they do not stop.

Everyone saying this is too late. We are Xennials not Millenials.

[-] shuvit@lemmy.ml 3 points 21 hours ago

The graduating class of 2000 were the original millennials before it was used as a general term for an entire generation.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millennials

They coined the term in 1987, around the time children born in 1982 were entering kindergarten, and the media were first identifying their prospective link to the impending new millennium as the high school graduating class of 2000.[29]

[-] Goodlucksil@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 1 day ago

Millennials typically are defined as being born between 1981 and 1996.

Like it or not, 1981 was 45 years ago. Modern Times (1936) is nearer in time to The Empire Strikes Back (1980) than The Empire Strikes back is to 2026.

Fist time I got an AARP flyer in the mail I wanted to punch the mailman.

But your doctor warned you about overexerting yourself like that, right?

I remember when I felt invincible, like the world is my oyster. It felt like yesterday. Even though I didn't achieve everything that I hoped, I'm glad I was raised to just enjoy the journey.

Meanwhile, retirement age is speeding away into the distance...
