Was going to say, literally the only 'cast' I ever heard of for bronchial tubes was ultimately fatal for the person the cast was made of and that was cougulated blood not a toxic substance.

If you get caught using AI to lie about science, all the scientists in that field should be allowed to hit you with sticks and branches as much as they please.

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never... *smack* *snap* *crackle* *pop*

Or better yet, a penalty of some years in a blacklist, meaning that no journal will publish any work from you

Anything but the metric system

"To the Editor: We were unaware of Journal policies on image manipulation and had altered our submission by using an artificial intelligence (AI) tool to move the ruler to the top of the image. We therefore wish to retract our image and case report.1 Yuling Wang, M.Med. Xiangdong Mu, M.D "

So the only thing AI was used for was to... Move a ruler to the top of an image? 🧐

I wish dumb excuses got punished more harshly, because it's either trying to escape consequences or a genuine amount of stupidity that either way should have your degree and/or funding revoked.

Yes, until they find more hallucinations

[-] dumnezero@piefed.social 20 points 13 hours ago

They could show the original images...

[-] mfed1122@discuss.tchncs.de 31 points 13 hours ago

We were unaware of Journal policies on keeping copies of the original images

[-] dumnezero@piefed.social 9 points 13 hours ago

lmao. What a pretext!

Imagine being a researcher and not keeping the original images over the figures sent with a paper.

And wouldn't they have the upload to the AI slop platform? Or did they also delete that chat?

[-] nathan@lemmy.permisuan.com 1 points 3 hours ago

Google deletes nothing

[-] quediuspayu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 14 hours ago

Even if it was true. Why?

[-] Mononomi@lemmy.world 15 points 14 hours ago

Damn didn't notice but that ruler is fucked up

[-] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 40 points 13 hours ago

“We used AI to move the ruler to the top of the image” what?

Why? Aesthetics? That’s either bullshit or the wackiest own goal of the day.

[-] Staden_@pawb.social 10 points 13 hours ago

Could be real tho

The article mentions that the casts are created by inserting a cryoprobe in the lungs, like in a cryosurgery

Also, a similar thing: Plastic bronchitis

I'm not a doctor btw. I just like reading wikipedia articles.

[-] Wirlocke 13 points 11 hours ago

The ruler has nonsense AI hallucinated numbers.

[-] Staden_@pawb.social 3 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

Yes, I've seen it.
