Ukraine has accused Russia of organizing staged “anti-war” protests in Cyprus in an effort to disrupt discussions among European leaders over continued financial and military support for Kyiv, according to Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation on April 24.

Russian-backed actors are attempting to influence the outcome of a high-level EU meeting taking place on the island, where President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is presenting proposals for deeper defense integration across Europe.

...

The protests, expected to continue through April 25, are reportedly coordinated by Russian diplomatic and cultural structures operating in Cyprus, including the embassy, Rossotrudnichestvo

-linked networks, and a so-called Russian cultural center. Ukrainian officials allege these groups routinely promote Moscow’s influence abroad under the cover of cultural initiatives.

“These actions are presented as a ‘struggle for peace,’ while in reality they push for ending EU financial support to Ukraine,” the Center said. It added that the campaign also promotes narratives suggesting that military assistance to Kyiv “prolongs the war,” a claim Ukrainian officials describe as an attempt to shift responsibility for Russia’s aggression.

Protestor: (thick Russian accent) I am here to protest peace. I too am a fellow Cyprus comrade. Fellow Russian peace protestor: slaps own forehead we are protesting for peace. Sergei will hear of this!

So they invested 90000000000€ into propaganda, election manipulation and who knows what else, and a little peace protest is all it takes to stop them. Pathetic.

Is it time to ban this imperial shill? I mean hating on a peace protest? Fucking disgusting.

There's really nothing but anti-russia and anti-china shilling from this account. Literally from state propagandists. It's a form of disinfo in itself.

Would we tolerate someone posting RT articles non-stop? Should we?

No tankies, no shitlibs please. No imperialism of any branding.

edit: Real normal post history...

As I already said, you have been frequently posting pro-China and pro-Russia propaganda. The tankie here is you. For the next disinformation campaign by Russia in Cyprus, there is much evidence cited in the linked article.

you have been frequently posting pro-China and pro-Russia propaganda.

Can you post any examples of my pro-China and pro-Russia propaganda?

Among others, you are using wsws[dot]org. They are explicitly spreading Chinese propaganda narratives only, they don't even hide it, particularly narratives regarding Beijing's warmongering around Taiwan. Just read your own post history.

So you can't find any actual pro-China or pro-Russia shilling.... Just some posts from a website that supposedly shills elsewhere?

This is a fucking joke. U banned.

Fediverse vs Disinformation

Pointing out, debunking, and spreading awareness about state- and company-sponsored astroturfing on Lemmy and elsewhere. This includes social media manipulation, propaganda, and disinformation campaigns, among others.

Propaganda and disinformation are a big problem on the internet, and the Fediverse is no exception.

What's the difference between misinformation and disinformation? The inadvertent spread of false information is misinformation. Disinformation is the intentional spread of falsehoods.

By equipping yourself with knowledge of current disinformation campaigns by state actors, corporations and their cheerleaders, you will be better able to identify, report and (hopefully) remove content matching known disinformation campaigns.
