Fuck the landowner. Shouldn’t be legal to own that.

Doesn't sound like they own it. Sounds like the river burst/overtopped its banks somewhere and they complained that it was flowing out of the river/wetlands onto their land.

Not clear the farmer expected this rather than either fixing the breach and/or reduced but not zero flow.

Fair enough but yeah, fix the breach… don’t just destroy an ecosystem and kill hundreds of animals. Seems like a lazy and shortsighted decision to just completely turn it off.

The NSW water minister, Rose Jackson, said she and the environment minister Penny Sharpe were aware of the situation. “WaterNSW has temporarily suspended environmental water releases that inundate private land,” she said. “We are working to identify pathways to reinstate those deliveries while managing liability as soon as possible.”
