[-] Wilco@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 hours ago

The man really does eat McDonalds constantly.

This was obviously staged ... but damn man, why McDonalds?

[-] Kirp123@lemmy.world 29 points 9 hours ago

So like the President can just order food and some random delivery person brings it over? No vetting who they are and no vetting of the food? I wonder if I'm gonna read about the world's dumbest assassination in the next week.

99% chance [edit: that it's] staged

[-] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 16 points 9 hours ago

A little cyanide would have gone a long way.

Plausible 🙄

[-] TheAlbatross 11 points 9 hours ago

Amazing, what a surreal experience for all involved

[-] lemmyng@lemmy.world 14 points 9 hours ago

Emphasis on surreal, cause there's no way this wasn't staged.

weughed

Is that the UK spelling or has journalism editing got this bad?

[-] RamenJunkie@midwest.social 1 points 5 hours ago

How was she allowed anywhere near him? He is a POS but he is the fucking President.

[-] mfed1122@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

Shit like this is why he's so hard to beat. It pains me to say it, but this is objectively the most relatable thing a modern president has ever done

Edit: Am I really getting downvoted just because I said something very slightly positive about one particular action Trump took? Even though I made it clear that I don't like him? Hopefully there's some other reason I'm missing or some of y'all are crazy. Like, I fucking hate Trump... But that doesn't mean its physically impossible for there to be something relatable about this one particular thing or something. I'm just pointing out that this is why he still manages to retain so much support. Not saying that's reasonable. Jeez

[-] RamenJunkie@midwest.social 2 points 5 hours ago

Door dash is expensive and a waste for like 90% of the population. So not really relatable.

[-] TheAlbatross 21 points 9 hours ago

What are you doing in your life that being swarmed with reporters while receiving delivery slop food is a relatable experience?

[-] mfed1122@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

I just mean getting the McDonald's delivery, of course. It may not be super relatable, but can you think of something more relatable done by a modern president? Especially if we stipulate that it was not done as just a completely manufactured publicity stunt - because I feel like this really was a case of Trump just wanting McDonald's.

[-] drzoidberg@lemmy.world 18 points 9 hours ago

can you think of something more relatable done by a modern president?

Eating an ice cream cone at an ice cream shop.

That's 1000 times more relatable than door dashing shitty drive through.

[-] TheAlbatross 6 points 9 hours ago

Damn yo the two examples of how a leader of a nation can seem to appear to live a life somewhat similar to the citizens are [Eat Cheap Food]?

Man, the bar is so low, huh?

[-] mfed1122@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 9 hours ago

Someone else posted a third one that was also about eating McDonald's specifically 🥲

[-] TheAlbatross 8 points 9 hours ago

Lmaoooo fuck dude

We're so boned.

The oligarchs do nothing for us and yet people be like "omg they require food to live just like me!"

[-] mfed1122@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 9 hours ago

The missing ingredient in those stunts, to me, is that I just don't buy that the president really wanted that ice cream enough to stop in for some even though it was unusual. Whereas I totally buy that Trump would randomly want McDonald's and not care whether doordashing it is reasonable or appropriate

[-] drzoidberg@lemmy.world 6 points 8 hours ago

There's more of a reason to stop at an ice cream shop than there is to ever door dash McDonald's.

Ice cream shops are enjoyable. Soft serve always tastes better than scooped ice cream in a cone. More flavor options at an ice cream shop. Small batch homemade ice cream will always be superior to any chain ice cream.

It makes 1000 times more sense to stop at an ice cream shop than it does to door dash shitty McDonald's.

You're grasping at straws here. Nothing about this is relatable to the average American, unless you've got brain damage.

[-] mfed1122@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 8 hours ago

unless you've got brain damage

So as I said, relatable to the average American

[-] drsilverworm@midwest.social 1 points 6 hours ago

I'm sure it even had his name at the bag at the restaurant 🙄

I assume you're referring to the paragraph I read before commenting:

The publicly unscheduled but clearly scripted press event played out just after noon as the press pool was ushered to the front door of the White House to watch the president of the United States grin and receive two large bags of McDonalds from a delivery driver who then turned to reporters and praised the GOP’s move to end taxes on tipped wages in 2025.

And this is why I said completely manufactured, because it seems like the reason McDonald's was chosen is simply because Trump wanted McDonald's - though I acknowledge this is debatable, its possible he plays it up for Americana vibes. The delivery order is still real, although her commentary is of course fake.

Again, I'm not saying that it's rational for this to relatable, or that the fact that its relatable ought to endear us to Trump legitimately, I'm just saying that to me it seems that it IS relatable whether that makes sense or not, and his ability to inject his own self into these stunts is part of what makes him hard to defeat politically.

Hey, so I've got this bridge for sale.

[-] mfed1122@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 7 hours ago

I really think people are misunderstanding me. I'm not buying what Trump is selling with this event.

[-] Bluefalcon@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 9 hours ago

Damn hamburglar!

[-] plyth@feddit.org 1 points 9 hours ago

If he did this to get an independent opinion then that's clever.
