In nursing it's selling someone independent when you know for a fact if they were evaluated they would be given assisted or higher care.

Sales people are fucking scum. Write checks that you must cash. Too often they suck fat cock at communicating (in a bad way) and expect people to move mountains for their vision.

When you're elderly a move takes years off your life. Knowingly putting someone in a place where they will be forced to move again so you can inflate your sales numbers is flat out negligence.

A cowboy rides his horse in the prairies. Sees a canyon and says, “I'm a cowboy, I'll jump that canyon!”

He directs the horse in a gallop toward the canyon. The horse stops short of jumping, and says “You're the cowboy, you jump.”

If sales doesn't care enough to ask the engineer how long it will take before promising it, sales doesn't get to tell us how long it needs to take after selling it.

Great, now you need two engineers. You'll manage that, boss.

Sales Director: A client bought our product on the premise it has feature A Me (dev): That feature doesn’t exist Sales Director: ….

True story…

It's easier to ask forgiveness than to ask permission. That goes for customer deadlines as well.

The fuck? If you get a job because you say 3 weeks instead of 4 like everyone else, and you still take 4 weeks. Thats no way to operate a business lmfao.

It's a way to get lots of customer acquisitions. Push the blame for failing to deliver on the engineers, leave to greener pastures before the fallout comes down on your head, and suddenly we're left with a new, unprepared and overworked KAM who has no idea what the sales rep promised and the issues we found with the product

That's why I'm not a sales person

[-] mnemonicmonkeys@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 days ago

Unfortunately there's a lot of sales people like that

[-] marcos@lemmy.world 30 points 3 days ago

That's the way most business operate.

[-] plantfanatic@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 days ago

No, if you keep doing it, you’ll get a reputation for not delivering, and work moves to those that don’t lie.

It works short term, and most businesses dont actually willfully lie to get contracts. Since when they’re broken…. There’s actually recourse that affects you.

But also, promising unicorns when they don't exist isn't a good way to run a business either.

It's the way to run a business if you're an AI company

Accenture would beg to differ.

Sums up my job as a CAD Specialist. Sales will sell a project with delivery in 2 weeks, with about 1,5 weeks of CAD work, 1 week of production time, and 4 weeks delivery time for 3rd party materials.

We implemented a system where users could call each other and share their screen. Sales team sold it with the promise that we would be implementing an option for the users to control the other user's shared screen remotely.

Strong vibes of the old Expert sketch

[-] ttyybb@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

3 years would probably be a better guess

[-] Hackbraten@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 days ago
