If there was a backdoor in, say, the original Pentium, do you not think someone would’ve found it by now?

I can't judge that. I486 structures are bigger and less complex so that the risk should be much lower.

I guess if youre still running Windows 3.1 or 95 you might be a little upset - but these CPUs haven't been manufactured in nearly 30 years.

They've been used in embedded systems until very recently. You can even still buy one.

You make a good point about embedded systems, but these chips were discontinued in 2007.

Just because you can still buy vacuum tubes, doesn't mean you should.
