Me after trying Raising Canes for the first time.

It’s barely better than school cafeteria food.

Listen, pal: 2018 is recent times! We can't just go around updating our opinions of things every two or four years! There's way too many things, and we have so many opinions. Also, some of us are middle-aged and worn out. The only solution is to form an opinion and then stick with it to the death.

Yours sincerely,

Shots fired.

even if it were somehow better in 2018, they are still much better than other fast-food chicken places even now - I don't know how they manage to do it, but it's like chick-fil-a level chicken

[-] wjrii@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago

I call it replicator chicken. It looks perfect, striking you as having been cooked in pristine oil, is consistent and properly fried, but then when you taste it you get the world’s blandest recipe. It’s really like a well-meaning computer’s idea of chicken tenders.

The sauce is decent, and utterly necessary, but it’s really not worth it, even within the space of fast-casual chicken fingers. I prefer Layne’s or even Zaxby’s.

[-] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

The chicken is 'fine/meh' but their sauce is awful. I have no idea who the fuck thought that concoction was pleasant or the rows of theoretical taste-testers that clearly lack taste buds, but shit they should be forced to dip everything in that slew for the rest of their lives. Actually genuinely an abomination.

I tried it on several occasions from different locations, but it sucks all the same.

[-] JetpackJackson@feddit.org 11 points 1 week ago

Oh god I was so disappointed in it cause everyone kept saying it was so good

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

thank y'all for y'all's sacrifices o7

[-] JetpackJackson@feddit.org 2 points 1 week ago

At least in my case it was catering that I didn't pay for, so the loss was of my appetite and my positive thoughts about the brand lol

[-] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

I'm a ride-or-die Zaxby's bitch.

[-] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

It is cafeteria food. The attraction is Cane Sauce. It's literally the only thing that elevates the food. Cane's is the worst fried chicken recipe.

[-] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Someone should probably tell then that the sauce is even worse

[-] village604@adultswim.fan 4 points 1 week ago

It honestly sounds like you went to a bad franchise.

The fries are always awful, though.

It used to be that McD's was shit, but at least it was fast and cheap.

Now it's still shit (maybe even worse), but also quite expensive ... and it's not even that fast anymore.

[-] Shellofbiomatter@lemmus.org 4 points 1 week ago

It stopped being fast years ago, precovid even. Pretty much as soon as delivery services became popular as those got higher priority than people being in the restaurant, the waiting times become equal to an actual restaurant.
Last drop for in restaurant was 45 minutes of waiting.

Price rose somewhere in between there and now as well and by now even delivery isn't fast.

Last drop with delivering was about a year ago, it was still kinda last minute quick back up option when coming from somewhere late in the evening and being rather tired to cook as i could order while I still on the road towards home.

It still took about an hour to arrive, most of the time was in cooking.
I could have reached home and still easily cooked something up at home and it would have been faster.

By now MCD is as expensive and slower than an actual restaurant with every possible way of ordering. So i don't even consider this as an option when out with the family.

[-] ieGod@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago

45 is pretty nuts! Haven't experienced that long of a wait but definitely wouldn't go back after something like that. That sucks.

I've started comparing everything to the $30+ for underwhelming Sonic food recently. Since then, things that have been the same price or less:

  • 1x smoked pork sandwich, 1x smoked brisket sandwich, 1x large mac and cheese ($32ish)

  • 1x turkey/dressing/cranberry sauce, 1x rice and gravy, 1x baked chicken, 1x mashed potatoes, 2x macaroni, 2x yeast rolls, 1x peanut butter pie, 1x lemon pie ($35)

  • Buy one, get one free wood-fired pizzas after 10 PM near me. Two pizzas for $14.95.

Fuck fast food. Try your local places. Deals are out there and you meet people.

[-] OwOarchist@pawb.social 19 points 1 week ago

Fuck fast food. Try your local places.

Grocery store deli counter can be an incredible place to get very good and affordable food, just saying.

[-] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

I like the free pieces of meat they give me.

"Actually, I'm all good now. You already fed me, SUCKERS!"

[-] crank0271@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Support the bourbon chicken place at your local mall food court (spiritually, not financially).

[-] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

I've heard all white people look the same, so they'll probably never even realize.

[-] FerretyFever0@fedia.io 4 points 1 week ago

I work fast food, and I could swear that I see the same 10 people over and over again, sometimes within 15 minutes of each other. I know they're not the same people, but I couldn't pick any of them out of a lineup. Most of them don't have any characteristics that stand out, colored hair helps though. Maybe I just have an awful memory.

Some of the Home Depots in my area (Philly) have places in the parking lot that sell cheesesteaks and sausage sandwiches and they're really fucking good. I would go there every day and the guy would double-stuff my sausage sandwich and even give me like a 6" link to eat while waiting for it. It was just too much -- I was already full after eating the sample.

[-] roguetrick@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Depends on the grocery store and how loss leader they're playing. Giant eagles fried chicken remains an incredible deal for such an overpriced store. Wegmans by comparison ain't going to save you a buck on prepared food but it'll usually be pretty good.

[-] night_petal@piefed.social 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

This honestly does not fit. $5 for a burger, fries, nuggets and a drink. I hate myself for doing it, but there just isn't cheaper food. The next best thing is paying maybe $8 (if you're lucky) for a frozen pizza that you need at least a half hour of time for.

I really do hate it, but trying to paint McDonald's as overly priced right now makes me think that you are either very out of touch, you have never had to live on truly bad food for long periods of time, or you're just posting this to get people to agree with you.

[-] ieGod@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 week ago

Where are you located? Their prices can vary wildly even within the same city. Check this out: https://www.reddit.com/r/toronto/comments/1pylyhk/i_compared_mcdonalds_menu_prices_across_toronto/

Only a few items under $5 here, and for the cheapest meal upgrade you still have to add on another $5.

[-] FlordaMan@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I’m not from the US, over here it’s really expensive for really crappy food.

[-] night_petal@piefed.social 3 points 1 week ago

That's more than fair. I think I had mild dyslexia when reading your username xD.

[-] hactar42@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 week ago

I've been in 3 different airports in the past 24 hours. This hits hard

[-] Mwa@thelemmy.club 6 points 1 week ago

Yeah, idk how red and yellow m&m went to City 17 but the food their is shit.

[-] Uebercomplicated@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 week ago

This happened to me recently. Tried a Vietnamese place that is literally twice as expensive as my usual Vietnamese place, and it was much, much worse. Sad times. I'm also a total food snob though

A Vietnamese takeout place just opened near me and I gave it a shot. Went in to pick up the food and it was all white people and I knew it wasn't going to work out. I was not disappointed in my negativity. It was like these people had watched a single TikTok video on Vietnamese cuisine and decided to open a restaurant. Probably just a front for laundering drug money.

[-] Uebercomplicated@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Probably just a front for laundering drug money.

It's crazy how much this happens, two super popular restaurants near me were busted for precisely this. Big police raids and everything, they even had semiautomatic rifles!

I used to live in Daytona and one day a shop opened up that sold nothing but Super-Whippers ... $1 plastic whisks. They were never open and they were 200 ft. away from three dollars stores and a Publix, all of which sold plastic whisks. Maybe the whisk demand in coastal Florida is a lot greater than I imagined, but I think it's more likely that this was a drug money laundry.

[-] Vupware@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

I’ve got a pho place near me that just raised their prices. Instead of $10 for a five lb meal, I now pay $12. I’m okay with that.

Demiurge bless the Asian dives!
