Due to the reasons mentioned in the previous pinned post

What reasons? What previous pinned post? I can't see this here or on the crosspost community.

Change them to a different archiving provider

Any recommendations?

It seems that the owner of archive has been running DDOS attacks through java script on visitors' machines. https://cybernews.com/security/archive-today-launches-ddos-directing-visitors-to-attack-blog/

That's a... bit weird.

[-] remon@ani.social 3 points 1 week ago

I prefer that over dealing with paywalls.

[-] victorz@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I despise both

In response to someone trying to dox him, who is now trying to play the victim.

"he tried to hit me, so I hit him and I haven't stopped yet"

Sound logic indeed.

It's worth clarifying that uncovering someone's identity isn't a crime, but ddos is. Just on the chance you weren't aware of such an important distinction.

It’s worth clarifying that uncovering someone’s identity isn’t a crime,

That depends on the jurisdiction, the EU has article 8 privacy rights https://audri.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/EN-AUDRi-Briefing-paper-doxing-04.pdf

Which is something you can fight in court, not by committing another crime

[-] RobotToaster@mander.xyz 4 points 1 week ago

Not while maintaining anonymity

[-] SMillerNL@piefed.social 1 points 1 week ago

Well, in that case I guess it’s okay to commit crimes and distort information as an archiving service. Anonymity above all

[-] Zomg@piefed.world 2 points 1 week ago

Ohh cool, didn't know this was a thing

For many sites like for example spiegel.de and derstandard.at … there are simply no working alternatives.

[-] erebion@news.erebion.eu 2 points 1 week ago

I've now started reading taz.de instead, they dony't have a paywall. You can even read them via Gopher and Gemini, which is really really useful when on a train in Germany and the bits slowly drip...

[-] comrade_twisty@feddit.org 3 points 1 week ago

taz is an opinionated leftist publication - which is not a bad thing, I read them too - but they don’t really work as a main source of information because of their extreme bias.

[-] erebion@news.erebion.eu 1 points 1 week ago

I read them because there are a lot of op'eds. I like seeing different views, pros and cons and even if my opinion is not covered, it is helpful to learn how others arrive at their opinion.

There are a few others, but that is the most similar out of the box I think.
