In short:

Darwin River Dam's pumping infrastructure was flooded this week, taking the city's main water supply offline and forcing thousands of residents to boil their drinking water for 48 hours.

The Northern Territory's Power and Water Corporation has stood by its response to the situation after concerns were raised about how the dam failure was communicated.

What's next?

Darwin still has no major back-up drinking water supply, but that's due to change later this year when the World War II-era Manton Dam is brought back online.
