It looks like they are getting that matchup since DeSantis is too far behind Trump and RFK Jr is too behind Biden.

Hard disagree. That would be much worse than an election involving Biden. Biden, at least, is sane, reasonably competent, and non-fascist.

Neither one is likeable. You are going to have people who would normally vote for either party who don't like their candidate, or the other sides candidate. It is a recipe for massive numbers of people not wanting this matchup.

Hopefully by 2028 Trump dies so it's not Trump and his massive-ass base vs the newcomer Dem candidate.

Due to the hyperpolarized political climate, could we not just be seeing the Democrats not wanting to see Trump on the main ticket + Republicans not wanting to see Biden?

It's a bad headline. What it should say is "a record number of Americans don't want to see either trump or Biden in the 2024 election"

[-] SubArcticTundra@beehaw.org 3 points 2 years ago

neither Trump or Biden

Here's my interpretation:

Trump is by far the most popular figure within the Republican Party. Among Republican voters, he is bounds ahead of any other potential candidate. Republicans are also aware that of the primary candidates Trump is probably the most disliked among general voters. Because of the number of people who would vote just so they could vote against Trump, having him as the candidate is a major risk.

On the other side, Joe Biden is not the first choice of almost any voter who themselves would prefer a different figure to run. Although Biden has certainly gotten some progressive things accomplished as president, Biden has always worked to appeal to the center and markets himself conservatively in many ways. In today's troubled environment, making compromises on solutions to the troubles including agreeing to not work on some solutions at all is not well liked by the base, and doesn't offer much to excite those outside of the base. Among the general population there is less excitement for more Biden than there is fear of more Trump.

It's already happening and there's nothing that can be done to stop it: https://www.twitch.tv/trumporbiden2024
