I mean a person even having heard of the fediverse is miles better than doomscrolling twitter or reddit

[-] AtaKe@lemmy.ca 15 points 1 year ago

Can't argue with this one

[-] Teppic@kbin.social 27 points 1 year ago

And here I am amused to be reading all the Lemmy centric replies to a Lemmy specific meme ... but doing it from elsewhere on the Fediverse. Here on kbin we interact with Mastodon just like we do with Lemmy. It all looks like one wonderful integrated fediverse from here!

Giving a new meaning to nose job

I've heard people trashing mastodon before, is there like a reason people don't like it? I haven't spent much time on it myself.

Nah just the usual issue of nerds having a pathological compulsion to look down on anything that doesn't meet their arbitrary standards for niche technologies. Same with people scoffing at someone who uses too "mainstream" of a Linux distro like Ubuntu or Mint rather than Arch or whatever.

The people on Mastadon are why I chose not to stay there. If you don’t know and adhere to the “expected behaviour” there you’re the devil and a million people with furry avatars will surely let you know.

[-] SkyeStarfall 2 points 1 year ago

Can you provide an example of this "expected behaviour"?

[-] mojo@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago

Being self righteous and compete with others for who is the most morally superior. Being against any sort of algos that make interesting content. Being against trying to grow the fedi as it's "growth mindset". Against having your feed not being political and activist content that gets exhausting. Being an out of touch old white collar worker who has zero money issues they actually have to deal with

[-] spacecowboy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

Sure. Agree with everything everyone says otherwise you’re a bigot/nazi/right wing homophobe.

[-] SkyeStarfall 5 points 1 year ago

Yeah... sorry if I am very skeptical of your criticism..

99% of the time anyone says what you say.. there's a reason for it.

[-] spacecowboy@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Honestly I really dgaf. I have a gay sibling and a gay niece. I am an ally and a realist and if I call you out on your bullshit that doesn’t make me a bigot/homophobe. I’ve been arrested defending my sibling so I’d say I’m pretty fucking invested in protecting lgbtq people.

There are tons of people who are lgbtq who use that as a “get out of jail free card” every time they act like pieces of crap or hypocrites. Mastadon has a lot of that.

You asked, I answered.

There are possibly multiple reasons (which i don't really agree with)

  • It's bad because it's popular

  • It's bad because of features

  • It's bad because the users

LEMMY WILL BE OUR LITTLE SECRET

[-] GTG3000@programming.dev 3 points 1 year ago

Funny, I still don't have a mastodon because I couldn't decide on an instance.

[-] luky@infosec.pub 1 points 1 year ago

is this medge. Idk at this point I'm too afraid to ask

[-] UraniumBlazer@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

If by "medge" u r refering to "Mastodon", then yes. Otherwise no.
