Canadian here. We find you annoying. Daily, multiple times a day, we're just slammed in the face with your bullshit. "What Trump is doing is illegal" or "Democrat Sen. says what Trump has done today is illegal" and then.....fuck all is done about it. Meanwhile we wake up this morning to see former Prince Andrew has been arrested and we kind of just throw our hands up like "ok...now your turn"
Again, another example FROM TODAY, Trump has taken 10bil from the US and put it into his "Board of Peace" essentially controlling his own personal slush fund. Right on queue Democrat Senators and Reps are saying "that's illegal!" ok...you going to do something about it THIS time? I'm still waiting on Ro Khanna to "draft up" those charges against Pam Bondi that he said he was going to do last December.
It's all talk and very little, if any, action from your leaders and it's annoying. And ALL of them are complicit in this including your favourites be it Bernie Sanders or AOC or Crockett. They all make sure they get a good sound bite or twitter post in and then....nothing, no follow through. another couple reps list off names from the files and then...nadda. One just straight up came out and said "Trump raped kids" soooooo where's that impeachment? arrest? no? nothing?
And the infuriating thing is your Republicans NOW know they can get away with it. Again look at how Bondi behaved. many Americans on here and on reddit were saying "she's acting that way cause she's scared" no she wasn't. she's was acting that way cause she knew she could get away with it.
And to TOP it all off you still have your fellow americans posting daily things like "I think we're the baddies now" or "we're starting to become fascist" or "I don't like America either". You just don't get it. You still have yet to accept the fact that you currently ARE a fascist country. you ARE the Nazi's. you ARE the enemy. Even this post "Hey guys look how much Canada doesn't like us NOW" now? NOW!? newsflash, we haven't liked you for a good long while. We've TOLERATED you. We've rolled our eyes at you for decades. Even the insulting posts people made of "We're sorry Canada". no, stop. That's like saying you chose to make a sandwich out of turds and puke instead of ham and cheese and then you gave the sandwich to the world and after we took a bite you said "oh, my bad, I shouldn't have done that huh?" It's like NONE of you get it until WELL after the fact and in many cases a lot of you STILL don't get it.
We don't want to hear your apologies anymore, we just want you to accept the fact that you're Nazi's, you're the bad guys and MAYBE you're going to consider fixing the mess you made. But as a Canadian who has had the unfortunate "pleasure" of living above you I know you're not going to. I know you might fix the current problem but a few years down the line we'll be right back at it again. I've lived through your Reagan and Bush years (multiple) you keep ramping up the worst you can be and I'm more scared of the person you elect AFTER Trump.

Since there’s an asshole starting shit in these comments: for you guys outside of America, I want one thing to be clear. We do not like having Trump as president. He ran saying he’d bring down costs for poorer families, but instead has ran a straight-up terror campaign.
The second thing is that America has a two party system. You’ve most likely heard this fact stated, but may not know what it means. America’s politics effectively give you two parties to vote for and anyone running as one of the “other parties” is wholly for posterity to take votes away from one of the two major candidates. This two party system was effectively bought by major corporations like Amazon. Corporations and “Special interest groups” (rich people) are able to lobby (bribe politicians) over-the-board to get what they want.
The big kicker is gerrymandering: these political leaders who take “lobbying” pick and choose districts. Long-story-short: this is what really decides elections. Instead of these being “squares” of land, lawmakers divvy up their states (our states are as large as European countries in both population and land size; there are 50 not counting all the countries we occupy like Australia or territories like Puerto Rico because they don’t voter) in their own party’s interest.
There is no way for a new party to rise like any other country in the world because they don’t ever have enough money to out market these two bigger parties. Even our 4 leaders (2 leaders per party per house and senate which are like one parliament based off of population size and one fucked up “equal” one) are chosen based on money.
Our politicians are corrupt, and they make the rules. There is not a lot Americans can really do, especially with the president having Americans killed. ICE is a para-military force that’s killed more people in 2025 than it had in its entire history; it’s not just the two news sites are reporting. Even our state representatives and senates/houses are afraid. They’re essentially afraid of this becoming Iran.
And a lot of Americans are prepping to flea. A lot of us have set up dual citizenships.
It’s not great.
They must, a non-zero number of them voted for a despot to destroy the country three times.

Do I want to die? No.
Best I can do is wish them death and in the meantime voice my disapproval in peaceful protests and repeatedly demanding more of my representation AND fellow constituents when it comes to enforcing laws.
I mean, what do you want us to do about it? What do you think it’s like having said child rapist as your leader when you didn’t vote for him? He has his own military force running around rounding people up and killing others. The news has only just covered 2 of them. 2025 saw more deaths due to ICE than its entire history.
It’s not the people you should point the finger at either. Do you even know the term “Gerrymandering?” Look it up. These elections are determined 16 years beforehand AND now Trump is trying to rewrite district lines so that Republicans have more districts that are even more partisan. On top of that, he’s threatening voters with violence. He’s already threatened to send military to voting stations.
On top of all of that, I don’t care what country you’re from, America has a different political system than ANY other country in the world. I don’t think even most Americans understand this. America’s two party system is ruled by money and bribes (we call these brides “lobbying”). And even our 4 party leaders (imagine you have 2 parliaments - one based off of population size for your state, and another where every state gets the same number of votes) are the leaders precisely because they have the most money that can be used for campaign ads. Oh yeah, don’t get me started on insider trading of our politicians. Everything I’ve described in this paragraph is 100% legal.
I’m not trying to tell people to not vote, but the truth is that in America, the land of the free and the land of democracy, our votes don’t matter, primarily because of the gerrymandering. So when you see Americans saying they’re fed up, don’t act like we aren’t fed up “enough.” We have people dying at protests. Our state level and local governments are looking at what happened in Iran and are waiting for Trump to do the same. He’s basically threatened it if any ICE agent dies.

I suppose you’re right that your country is similar or has similarities. I’m not saying that other countries don’t have problems with their own governments or money. But that’s not what I was illustrating here. What I’m illustrating is why the fair elections turn out how they do. Would I say that Russia is less corrupt or less ruled by money? No. Ukrain? Obviously not.
What I’m illustrating is that America, despite being “the land of the free,” is very much not free. And this idea that all Americans are at fault for Donald being elected isn’t true. About 47% of its population didn’t vote for him (before you say anything I do understand how elections work) and now he is tearing our republic/democracy apart.
And yes, it always looks from outsider perspectives that Americans are not studied or that we don’t travel or that we don’t pay attention to outside politics. We do. Believe me. So when I say we have a very different political system, I’d argue it’s true. And it’s true for every other country. No political system (or even government) is the same. And we are all just as helpless as each other. Like, in America we don’t have parties sprouting up like Russia, Germany, Australia, etc. we don’t have a dictatorship like Russia, North Korea. We don’t have three separate countries inside of one like the UK - we have over 50. It’s like if the EU was one country.
So it doesn’t help that you’re assuming I don’t pay attention outside my boarders. We literally just invaded Venezuela and kidnapped their leader (without our congress agreeing to it, which is required by law). America has so much power in world politics. We have military bases spread across the world; it wouldn’t even require us dispatching troops from America to stage a coup in another country. And we’ve already done it or tried to do it: look at the Philippines or Cuba (Bay of Pigs as we call it) or literally anywhere in the Middle East. I would be an idiot to not pay attention. It’s fucking scary.
And to give you another example, these corporations that I’m talking about don’t just mess with my economy and government. These chip shortages you’re seeing, that’s the companies in my country causing them. China not exporting chips that are used for cars anymore? That’s America’s fault.

Until I see bigger lineups at A&W (A&W Canada is actually 100% Canadian, no royalties or anything to the USA) than McDonalds, Burger King, etc, not even close to being a start on the way to good enough.
I can see lots of people checking labels, but we need to get back to "US apples rotting on Canadian shelves" levels of action again. I want to hear more about US businesses begging Canadians to come back. I want to hear Trump threatening Canada for being anti-America. I want it to be crystal clear where Canada stood.
The good news is, some airlines are canceling flights to the Untied States due to lack of demand
A&W has better food than other fast food joints, and this has been the case for years. If my family eats fast food it is always the teen burger.
You're not seeing as much US produce rotting because less places are buying it now. Last winter we were still dealing with having to not choose US oranges, but this winter the grocers have found alternatives. I've had plenty of South African oranges and cantaloupe this winter.
That's fair I've seen a lot more non-US produce lately. But there is still a fuck-ton of it on the shelves. Apples and lettuce being two big offenders where I am. And...yams? Been dying for a goddamn yam for months but apparently only the US knows how to grow a damn yam.
There are great Canadian greenhouse lettuce growers putting out awesome product now. I hope we can see those guys selling out while the $4.99 head of lettuce from Ameristan turns brown waiting for a buyer that never comes.

Can't even blame you. Even if we suddenly fixed our crack head behavior one day then what? Are there still cultural forces that will lead us to just start stealing the wires out of the world's walls in 4 years? How long until until "somehow crackheads returned"?
It wasn't supposed to be like this. We were raised to be different from the dumb shit that came before. I wanted to be a good neighbor and build a future that didn't seem shitty to bring kids into.
As an American I thought it would be much worse. 75% or more. We have been shitty neighbors. Seriously, threats, tariffs, insults, etc.

As a US citizen myself, I can't blame them. I also hate this country.
I’m a US Citizen and I also currently think the US is a bigger threat to world peace. (Sorry Ukraine!)
Nothing has actually changed between the people of the two nations, but Trump instinctively knows that he can divide people by creating conflict so he succeeded in getting America's stupid masses and Canada's stupid masses to start playing his tribalism games.
And ya'll on both sides of the fence are playing into the game willingly because you both feel righteous and better than the other because of the loud minority who are screaming the insults and taking it seriously.
Once again, we have the minority voice dictating the narrative for hundreds of millions of people.
There's no division: I also think the USA is currently a threat to world peace.
Yah me too but I'm talking about the social discourse between people, towards people, not governments. There is a hateful sentiment spreading and if you haven't seen it yet, you will. It's just ramping up and it's all by design.
I think Canadians are actually pretty decent at distinguishing the government and the people, because of the cultural closeness.
Kind of like how Zelensky probably still speaks Russian at home.
