Another case for the jury

[-] OpenStars@piefed.social 40 points 4 weeks ago

I feel so seen! :-P

BTW, 42.

[-] UPGRAYEDD@lemmy.world 5 points 4 weeks ago

Cant forget the meaning of life and everything.

As a dad who tries to connect with his kids, I made a 67 reference last week. Their response: "Oh Dad, 67 is old now." Kids these days can't even commit to the bit. 🤣

[-] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 31 points 4 weeks ago

You made it old when you said it. Could you imagine your own parents making 420 jokes?

[-] BananaPeal@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 weeks ago

I've referenced it a few times in the past and they didn't complain. Oh well.

[-] WonderRin@sh.itjust.works 30 points 4 weeks ago

This is why I cannot dislike the 67 meme. I don't actively like it or anything but we have our own funny number and there were 42 as well and 21 for a while.

There are definitely things to criticize about the new generation, I am not denying that, but finding a number amusing is too inoffensive for me to care.

The middle ground fallacy

[-] sol6_vi@lemmy.makearmy.io 15 points 4 weeks ago

I always wondered when I'd stop being the one being hated by adults and start being the one hating kids. I always wondered what it would be that I "didn't get". I thought, I'm tech savvy. I don't know in what way I would be left behind by future generations. I could not have predicted this.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 4 weeks ago

so it's fun. turns out, you just keep being hated by everyone

[-] slacktoid@lemmy.ml 15 points 4 weeks ago

Dont get me started on skibidi toilet!

[-] Maultasche@lemmy.world 28 points 4 weeks ago

Our glorious Gmod videos

Their horrible SFM animations

[-] slacktoid@lemmy.ml 7 points 4 weeks ago

I legit enjoy it and think it's a fun commentary on legacy vs contemporary media.

[-] Klear@quokk.au 3 points 4 weeks ago

Skibidi toilet is shockingly well made.

[-] NotSteve_@piefed.ca 12 points 4 weeks ago

I grew up on source film maker slop but I will take the opportunity to hate on the corporatisation of SFM shitposts. Why the fuck is there skibidi toilet merch? A movie? What the fuck, are they going to make a movie based on Shrekophone? Fucking fuck I want off this ride

[-] Korne127@lemmy.world 10 points 4 weeks ago

I love the fact that I never turned into this guy that hates the new stuff. I wasn't hating fidget spinners when everybody hated them, I liked Fortnite, I think skibidi toilet is fun and such. But just as I didn't like some trends when I was young myself (e.g. I never wanted to join the Gangnam style dance), I do find it disappointing that 67 is so popular, because I loved the fact that 69 is funny because of sex.

[-] MeowerMisfit817@lemmy.world 10 points 4 weeks ago

Atleast 69 had a context. 67 literally was a kid spurting out a random number.

I don't know what "based" means, and at this point I'm too afraid to ask.

[-] thethunderwolf@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 4 weeks ago

It's the opposite of "cringe"

[-] MathiasTCK@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

Hardly, the use of based this way is cringe.

https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/based

(Internet slang, originally 4chan slang) Admirable for rejecting political correctness or socially progressive values. Synonym: unwoke based and redpilled My last account got banned for being too based.

Is this where I say six seven? Am I doing it? Do the kids think I'm cool yet?

[-] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 6 points 4 weeks ago

There is a point where random noises become a song. Disposability of culture is, to my eye, a novelty that hasn’t yet reached the point of becoming a song. It’s just random noises, and I want to silence them with a heavy pipe to the throat
