Another question: Why do they still do natural childbirth when they have transporters?
Because the transporter is a nightmare fuel generator even when they are not using it to split two living beings that are literally bound by flesh, and even biologically synchronized to a high degree?
And yet, somehow, people willingly step into it all the time!
Outside of starships named Enterprise or Voyager they also seem to have a series of rules in place to prevent sending people to the wrong universe or merge them with their pet.

The other Naomi Wildman survived the transport and was taken to the less doomed Voyager by the remaining Harry Kim. You know, the one that didn't get spaced from a ruptured hull.
I like to think it's because healthy natural child birth is optimal for both the babys and the mothers wellbeing.
