I don't know why, but it reminds me of the centaurs from fallout...

[-] wake@quokk.au 12 points 1 month ago

For me, it reminds me of the guy in Robocop who got doused in toxic waste

Think it's the color. And how neither should exist.

@ickplant #Alt4You Photograph of gardening serendipity. The caption reads "This carrot. Forgotten in the ground for two years." Pictured is a cluster of green stems sprouting from a biblically accurate monstrosity of root vegetable. Roots reach out in every direction, as a low voice murmurs, "Be not afraid. I come to herald a great mirepoix."

I'm hoping to pull up a monster like this someday after having left a few in the ground. All the ones I pulled liked like they had barely been growing for a couple of months!

[-] GardenGeek@europe.pub 6 points 1 month ago

Did you, by any chance, transplant them when they were small? Carrots realy hate that and tend to skip root growth.

[-] Drusas@fedia.io 6 points 1 month ago

Nope, they were all direct-seeded. Three different varieties in fertile, well-draining soil with no rocks, clay, or significant compaction.

[-] GardenGeek@europe.pub 5 points 1 month ago

Okay, then my assumption was false and your case remains mysterious!

[-] Drusas@fedia.io 2 points 1 month ago

Thanks for trying!

JFC look at that abomination! Are you telling me this is just what naturally happens to carrots when they aren’t harvested?!?
