See box that looks like it's 3/4 ripped in half from stacking damage:

"Looks good to me, send it off."

Ended up ordering it from Phillips for cheaper on sale, turns out it's not too hard to avoid Amazon altogether and a bonus for the company's reputation being important to the ones picking/packaging the product. Hard to blame the Amazon worker though, they don't get paid enough to care.

My guess an employee might not have ever even seen it. Amazon uses a fleet of robots now for all manor of things in their warehouses.

Semi-related story but not Amazon…this was a Circuit City to show how long ago it was. I bought a Blu-ray player(one of the first that wasn’t $1K) there and got home with it. Box was perfect with factory sealed tape applied. Crack it open and while the player was in the box it was utterly crushed. I’m talking outer casing of the player in shattered pieces. The metal frame under the outer casing was bent and mangled. It literally looked like it was ran over with a forklift. Then packaged nice and neatly. The styrofoam wasn’t even cracked and all the accessories were there in plastic wrap. So something clearly went very wrong here. The really odd part was it looked like all the pieces of broken bits made it into the box. Swapped it out with no issues back at the store. Luckily never experienced anything like that again…

[-] lefixxx@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

did you consider someone sending you that intentionaly with the hope that the outside box reaches you in not pristine condition and you ust blame the dispatcher?

Would be nice if that community didn't just post "Bezos bad" and actually gave tips on reducing Amazon use, but it's a newer comm with little traction...

Edit: Some of y'all missed the point lol. I don't use Amazon, but it makes it extremely hard to find shit that isn't being sold in stores near me. How about promoting other websites/ways to get things, rather than preaching about Bezos being evil. I know he's evil, it's why I don't use Amazon, but TEACH people where else they can go.

It's the equivalent of going "Sex is bad kids" but then not actually teaching safe sex, condom use, STIs, etc.

don't shop on amazon

you don't need a community for that

[-] smoker@lemmy.zip 16 points 4 days ago

The community is called “de-amazon”. It’s fine to say “bezos bad” but there’s plenty that the community could do beyond that.

Amazon and brick-and-mortar big box stores killed a lot of small businesses, and now online shopping is the only way to go for a lot of items, especially niche stuff.

Here are some ideas for actual useful posts in a community called “de-amazon”:

Here are the best sites for all your cookware needs

Anyone know some reputable sites to buy drone parts?

How to make diy x so you don’t have to buy it!

But who cares about community and information-sharing anyway.

Be the change you want to see in the world ❤️. I usually shop at thrift stores and locally sourced bidding websites (Macbids - PA and OH). I've also purchased from EarthHero which is online store for environmentally conscious brands.

[-] sauerkrautsaul@lemmus.org 2 points 3 days ago

yeah no fair enough

[-] Krudler@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

Plastic bad. Now stop using it. You figure it out.

[-] plant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 4 days ago

Just use Amazon less, is Jeff using your computer

[-] Thorry@feddit.org 24 points 4 days ago

Probably boxed up by a clanker, as long as the weight matches, it's good to go.

[-] raspberriesareyummy@lemmy.world 16 points 4 days ago

If you are not boycotting that Evilcorp, you had it coming.

[-] Lasherz12@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

I'm getting better at it. Unfortunately still end up getting a lot drop shipped from them.

[-] 87Six@lemmy.zip 5 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

I feel you.

I'm personally trying to avoid Emag, a romanian online shitstore.

I recently gave in and bought a G203 mouse from them because it was the best price. Little did I know it was the best price because it was being sold by a shady minimum-capital foreign company from France, and was clearly counterfeit... It didn't even connect to the Logitech Software and the quality was terrible. I filed an ECC and Romanian consumer protection complaint and swore to never buy from their shitty site again.

Nowadays I look products up on Emag then search them separately to find better vendors to buy from, lol.

Im assuming you eat raspberries farmed by migrant workers making below minimum wage

Sure, the “there is no ethical consumption under capitalism” whataboutism. It isn’t any individual person’s fault for being forced to participate in capitalism. But it is their fault for not taking reasonable steps to minimize their harm. The difficult part of the conversation is that every single person will have a different definition of what “reasonable” means. For some, it means avoiding the obviously evil megacorps. On the other end of the spectrum, some may think it essentially means going capitalist-vegan and reverting back to scavenging and subsistence farming in their parents’ back yard.

LatteGo, LatteGo, Can't hold it back anymore~

As an aside, I have that coffee maker and love it! See if there's a local coffee shop, here in my city it was stocked and they even let me try a cup from there

Oh as an aside, the coffee comes out SUPER weak at the beginning, where I thought it was broken. Give it 20-30 shots/cups and it'll start tasting more normal. I've had mine for 3 years now and love it

[-] justlemmyin@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

'Some assembly required'

[-] Gladaed@feddit.org 1 points 3 days ago

You can just get your money back from Amazon. In my experience they just refund you. In my case the product was missing and it was worryless.

[-] SaltySalamander@fedia.io 1 points 3 days ago

Hard to blame the Amazon worker though, they don't get paid enough to care.

That's where you're wrong. If they don't get paid enough to care, they need to find employment somewhere that they'll actually do the job they're being paid to do.

[-] Fredthefishlord 13 points 3 days ago

That's not how finding jobs work. You can't just magically get a better one, much less in this economy. Instead, they should unionize collectively and fight Amazon for better pay

[-] TachyonTele@piefed.social 3 points 4 days ago

Just buy instant.
What do you need all that technology for? It's coffee.

[-] Lasherz12@lemmy.world 20 points 4 days ago

Maybe I'm snobbish, but instant vs drip vs French press vs americano all taste different and Americano is so much better it was this or a bialetti moka express. My wife said she'd never use the stove top one and I've made over 10,000 espresso shots so far, so I'd wager I would have eventually caved in and bought a super automatic anyways. It may have paid for itself in electricity tbh.

[-] Onomatopoeia@lemmy.cafe 3 points 4 days ago

I've used a DeLonghi espresso machine ($100) for close to 20 years now. My first one lasted 15 years.

It's not perfect, but just about the best bang-for-buck on the market.

[-] TimeNaan@lemmy.world 17 points 4 days ago

Instant coffee tastes nothing like freshly brewed.

Although I agree that the overcomplicated coffee machines with wasteful pods are ridiculous. Just use one of these, simple to use, portable and great coffee every time:

[-] starlinguk@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago

Instant coffee has its uses, but it ain't coffee.

[-] Duranie@leminal.space 5 points 4 days ago

I keep a jar on hand for adding to certain baked goods/desserts, and I'll throw some in my protein shake along with a little extra fiber for breakfast.

[-] purplemonkeymad@programming.dev 2 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

I find a cafetiere even less work for basically the same. Just don't use boiling water, either cool it off or use one set to 80c.

[-] Pechente@feddit.org 8 points 4 days ago

There are tons of ways to make coffee and each tastes slightly different and some beans are better suited to be prepared in different styles. If people wanna enjoy coffee in a certain style, just let them. It’s fine that you like instant coffee but others might wanna prepare their coffee differently.

[-] EtherWhack@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

Brewed is a bit more healthier than instant and you can support local roasters over the corporate-owned ones.

[-] Gerudo@lemmy.zip 6 points 4 days ago

I'm far from a coffee snob, but instant tastes awful compared to even preground prepackaged coffee

[-] I_Clean_Here@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

So you say in a different comment this was a joke. You seem to have no idea how jokes work.

[-] fishsayhelo@lemmy.ml 3 points 4 days ago
[-] TachyonTele@piefed.social 2 points 4 days ago

Was my comment about instant too infuriating, it had to be deleted?

[-] notabot@piefed.social 8 points 4 days ago

Weirdly I can see your blasphemous comment about instant 'coffee' in your history, linked to this post, but it doesn't show up in the comments here. I suspect it's because it's been voted down to -30.

In answer to the assertion you made about coffee being all the same, I say: you heathen! You Philistine! You non-appreciator of tasty coffee! If you like instant, that's one thing, but many feel (as do I) that instant isn't a patch on properly roasted, ground, and brewed coffee.

[-] Onomatopoeia@lemmy.cafe 2 points 4 days ago

I'm not even that particular a out coffee, and I'll be damned if I'm doing instant all the time.

I keep some around for emergencies, but otherwise it's espresso/cappuccinos for me. A decent machine can be had for $100

[-] Harvey656@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

Nope its still there. Your still a snob too!

[-] TachyonTele@piefed.social 5 points 4 days ago

Being called an instant coffee snob is pretty cool, thank you

[-] Lasherz12@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

Lol I just found it funny. I know a few people, mostly people from Mexico, that prefer instant. It's weird but all the power to ya. The only crappy thing about it is that it's harder to avoid nesco and similarly evil companies when you do that.

[-] TachyonTele@piefed.social 1 points 4 days ago

Thank you. I'm glad you smiled at least. I'm not sure how so many people didn't see the obvious joke.

[-] Harvey656@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

Well, uh, as long as you're happy haha.

[-] BananaIsABerry@lemmy.zip 4 points 4 days ago

Lemmy can still see the comment, a piefed thing I guess?

[-] TachyonTele@piefed.social 2 points 4 days ago
[-] faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 3 points 4 days ago

Can confirm, it's still visible on lemmy, but it's collapsed on my piefed alt

[-] TachyonTele@piefed.social 1 points 4 days ago

Interesting. I can't even see the collapsed option.
