In the top panel they would complain about the Polish migrant

[-] ArmchairAce1944@discuss.online 7 points 3 weeks ago

British racists still complain about the Polish migrant despite all the Indians and Pakistanis in the UK.

I love this comic and very much agree with the spirit of it. I am also fully in favor of diversity and immigration into the US.

It is also interesting to know that “non-Hispanic whites” are in fact expected to become a minority in 2045 according to demographic projections by the US Census Bureau.

I hate white panic in all its forms but as a matter of factual accuracy, we can’t lampoon it as freaking out over 2 people in 10 not being white. It’s further along than that, at least nationally. Granted, in any particular room, some white people will still freak out over 2 in 10.

True, yet in this specific instance this isn't about overall population, but specifically the muslim population, which if I recall correctly is under 1% of the population, far lower than the 10-20% in the comic.

[-] scarabic@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

True. I was commenting on the comic, which isn’t Islam-specific necessarily.

[-] PunnyName@lemmy.world 34 points 3 weeks ago

More than zero = taking over

Because they're bigots.

[-] sturmblast@lemmy.world 32 points 3 weeks ago

I mm tired of "Christians"

[-] jumperalex@lemmy.world 17 points 3 weeks ago

Yup, I 100% have a problem with Muslims in political office. Same as I have a problem with Christians, religious-Jews, Hindu's, etc who identify by their magical thinking and uses it to govern.

I 100% have no problem with any humans in political office who use the best data available and reason to govern and elevate the human condition

[-] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

Agreed 1000000000000000%

[-] Humana@lemmy.world 29 points 3 weeks ago

Maybe they're talking about how the Saudis have bribed their way into controlling Republicans?

[-] LodeMike@lemmy.today 17 points 3 weeks ago

That would require critical thought.

[-] Denjin@feddit.uk 11 points 3 weeks ago

Can't be, because they've done that, and the other side as well, since the 70s.

[-] Jakeroxs@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 weeks ago

Trump did just move them up on his myspace friend list

[-] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Idk "Muslim" is a lot of typos away from "Saudi."

[-] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 11 points 3 weeks ago

Conservatives cry.

It's what they do.

If they weren't living in fear of something, anything, then they wouldn't be conservatives.

Victimhood is a core tenet of the conservative ideology.

What would be the problem? They tend to be too brown? Nobody who spouts an overall negative opinion of Islam has ever read the Qur'an, and probably goes around talking ignorant nonsense in general. But 1) the West dislikes personal responsibility, so actually living in accordance with one's beliefs (that God exists and He will judge us all for our actions, so you better act right) is seen as extreme 2) the American war machine plus attack dogs have been pushing dehumanising and islamophobic narratives (going mega hard for about 3 decades at least but it has been in the Western European cultural background since at least the Crusades/Roman invasion of Judea) so they can better sell their murder and pillaging of the Middle East to those committing the atrocities and their loved ones at home. 🤷

[-] rapchee@lemmy.world 13 points 3 weeks ago

not to say that any action is justified against muslims, but the quran is just as bad as any religious text. i don't need to learn everything about scientology to be able to dismiss it, why should it be different for islam? or any christian sect and the rest too

Have you read any of it? 🙄 I'm pretty sure the Sermon of the Mount and Ecclesiastes are very different from the doctrines of Satanism wherever they're written, lol, you can't just put all belief in one bag because you don't know what belief is!

[-] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 15 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

THERE ARE SEVEN FUNDAMENTAL TENETS

I

One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.

II

The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.

III

One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.

IV

The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one's own.

V

Beliefs should conform to one's best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one's beliefs.

VI

People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one's best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused.

VII

Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.

I am not a satanist, but these are the tenets of the satanic temple.

Damn, that's pretty moral and nice and not devilish at all, lol. Whatever Marylin Manson was acting up to be is what I thought Satanism was, but I see could be a Satanist! 😂

[-] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 4 points 3 weeks ago

Marylin Manson was trying to sell concert tickets to edgy teenagers.

Indeed we can. Because "belief" is not based on reason. Therefor it is ALL in the same basket as something I don't want in my government. If I believed (get it!) any of them could be trusted to govern in a secular manner I might be less salty. But I have been given very little evidence that they** can.

** They = anyone who openly, loudly, repeatedly identifies themselves by their magical thinking while campaigning / governing. They are more than welcome to believe what they want so long as they keep it out of the way of deciding my way of life. I still hold a place in my heart that thinks that's possible, but it is getting smaller every day as I watch the [religious text]-thumpers screaming louder and louder.

Belief just means standing for something. I believe in generosity, self control, avoidance of violence, the proper treatment of women and children, etc etc. I'll stand behind it regardless of what you say. The Qur'an also advocates this, and people agree with it so they "believe" in what's written. Only believing in the Creator Himself and everything that happens after death requires any sort of "effort", and even the former I would say is self evident!

[-] jumperalex@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

Religion is neither necessary nor sufficient to engender qualities of generosity, self-control, avoiding violence / advocating for peace, treating people well etc.

Those also aren't the types of "beliefs" I'm talking about and you know it. I specifically mentioned magical thinking and in this context "belief" is not a reference to believing in being generous, but belief in the supernatural, god, spirits, etc ... magical thinking. More to the point, believing in those, the books that espouse them, and expecting other's around you to believe / act based on those same beliefs is my problem; doubly so when preached from my elected representatives.

[-] rapchee@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Belief just means standing for something.

let's not pull a jordan peterson and redefine basic words, belief means accepting something as true (critics would argue, without a basis)

I believe in generosity, self control, avoidance of violence, the proper treatment of women and children, etc etc.

all good things, none of them require a belief in any god. although the "proper treatment of women" ... is that limiting what they are allowed to do or enjoy, maybe that's not quite good enough. also, do men not deserve "proper treatment"?
and belief in belief in a creator is "self evident" only to religious people. i used to see it that way too, but i think it's the "god tinted glasses", like the optimists' rose tinted glasses, that distorted my view

[-] rapchee@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

well they are all just stories, so in the "base your life on it" sense it doesn't matter. have you read any satanist texts?

No, but now I know not to go by names only, it seems pretty reasonable and nice, haha.

[-] Jumbie@lemmy.zip 5 points 3 weeks ago

I’ve read the Q’uran. Let’s not lie about its contents.

That being said, their instinctive hate for Muslims is another reason to despise conservatives.

[-] ghosthacked@lemmy.wtf 7 points 3 weeks ago

Same shit in the uk. Muslims are a fraction of the overall population but apparently they're taking over.

[-] AdolfSchmitler@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

"But if I stop fueling their racism they'll realize I've been making their lives worse and abdicating my duties as an elected official"

[-] DamnianWayne@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Well duh it can't be the group of pedos in pizza parlor basements injecting baby blood for eternal youth, because they actually are in charge now.

So the magats a new enemy, and Muslims aren't them so they're safe to attack.

[-] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

They worship lies. The bigger the lie, the more they want it to be true.

[-] absGeekNZ@lemmy.nz 4 points 3 weeks ago

Clearly they are worried about the ultra-efficient Muslims; who with such a tiny percentage of political power; are taking over.

[-] Yerbouti@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 weeks ago

Canadian parties have been winning election on this for the past 25 years. But this time it's true, it's about to happen, trust me.

[-] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

I mean, I have never seen anyone walk up to the minimum wage Cashier and start yelling about how pork is against the "traditional Muslim values."

[-] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago

These people see one black janitor in an office full of white guys and go "All this diversity is basically white genocide! We can't let them replace us!"

[-] scarabic@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

“Taking over” has to start somewhere LOL /s
