The last U.S. president to visit Australia, Barack Obama, once said: “It’s horrible.”

This is a lot funnier if you read it out of context.

[-] Wilco@lemmy.zip 4 points 4 days ago

How dare he say that!

[-] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 14 points 5 days ago

What is wrong with this person? Who willingly chooses to eat Vegemite?

[-] Tenniswaffles 14 points 5 days ago

Just because you don't like something doesn't mean others don't.

[-] AceFuzzLord@lemmy.zip 4 points 5 days ago

I like just about any food, but I can't see how people can stand Vegemite.

[-] Tenniswaffles 9 points 5 days ago

You don't need to understand. Vegemite is mass produced, and has been mass produced for decades upon decades. If people weren't buying it, they wouldn't be selling it. Therefore there are plenty of people who like it

[-] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 1 points 4 days ago

My theory is that it is a form of torture

[-] CXORA@aussie.zone 2 points 4 days ago

Thats wild. Its salty and savoury, whats not clicking?

[-] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 2 points 5 days ago

Vegemite is one of the few exceptions to this

[-] Tenniswaffles 6 points 5 days ago

I am a person who willingly eats Vegemite, so is my family, most of my friends, co-workers, acquaintances, the literal hundreds of children I've cared for in my line of work for the most part all eat vegemite.

More than 22 million jars of the stuff is produced annually, which points to the fact that a whole lot of people must be willingly eating it.

You're not the main character. Your opinions are not the most important or the most correct.

Y'all crazy

[-] olafurp@lemmy.world 9 points 5 days ago

Disregarding the case where you are a Marmite supremacist I'll say why.

Vegemite and marmite can be thought of as a bitter spice to put on top of butter toast. Just like with salt you can put nothing, way too much and the just right amount. The just right amount is way more subjective than tomatoes or cheese on breat since it can vary by a factor of 20-50x.

I have converted some people to eating marmite and I do it by putting 2-3mm of a knifes tip on the toast and spreading it as thin as possible.

For others wondering, stated reason is “cultural”.

claiming in a lawsuit that withholding the polarizing yeast-based spread breaches his human right to “enjoy his culture as an Australian.”

[-] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 days ago

So if this case is successful, does it mean I can have chilaquiles and sopaipillas if I'm thrown into the slammer?

He's been incarcerated for decades and hasn't forgotten the taste. Clearly this is a matter of national importance. Get on it Albo

McKechnie was handed a life sentence for stabbing a property developer to death in Queensland in the 1990s.

He can have a little Vegemite as a treat.
