Carlos Alberto Manzo Rodríguez, who was under police protection, was shot dead in front of dozens of people

A mayor in Mexico’s western state of Michoacán was shot dead in a plaza in front of dozens of people who had gathered for Day of the Dead festivities, authorities have said.

The mayor of the Uruapan municipality, Carlos Alberto Manzo Rodríguez, was gunned down Saturday night in the town’s historic centre. He was rushed to a hospital where he later died, according to state prosecutor Carlos Torres Piña.

A city council member and a bodyguard were also injured in the assault.

Charlie Kirk was shot in Utah. Should we invade Utah?

On a serious note the vast majority of guns in Mexico are manufactured in and trafficked from the United States our own research backs this up. Mexico has repeatedly asked the United States to monitor this and been ignored. Mexico even filed a lawsuit but our corrupt Supreme Court full of facist activist judges dismissed the case. We really haven’t taken any personal responsibility as a country to help our neighbor with this issue so I’m quite sure the motive is much more sinister than the Trump administration is letting on. We already know how they feel about the Latino community and indigenous people. We know they are kidnapping and sending every migrant to a concentration camp, disappearing them or deporting them to a foreign concentration camp. This Mexico invasion has some real Poland invasion from the Nazis vibes because there’s no chance this doesn’t escalate and when it does that’s their false flag.

To be clear on the facts Mexico has stated that they do not want military intervention from the United States. We as a country have refused to crack down on American guns being trafficked to cartels in Mexico. Most of the guns in Mexico were trafficked from the United States….I guess the wall didn’t help. Seems like America has our own ultra right cartel problem. Historically when the United States invades millions of innocent civilians die. This action will definitely put us in violation of international law.

It was the right day for it! ... I'm going to hell aren't I?

[-] cley_faye@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Eh, is hell really the worst place to be this time of the century?

Manzo Rodríguez, who some nicknamed “the Mexican Bukele” in reference to the tough security policies of El Salvador’s president, Nayib Bukele, took office as mayor of Uruapan after winning that year’s midterm elections with an independent movement.

It's hard not to have mixed feelings about this particular political assassination. There are hundreds more that seem way more tragic than this one.

Michoacán is one of Mexico’s most violent states and is a battleground between various cartels and criminal groups fighting for control of territory, drug distribution routes and other illicit activities.

Idk in that sort of situation some tough policies might be warranted. Cartels got their way again though

And everyone on lemmy thinks the US shouldn't intervene to stop the cartels.

Lol.

First we should stop allowing gun dealers to traffic guns into México. Mexico literally tried to sue the United States for not doing any oversight on guns being trafficked into Mexico from the United States. Unfortunately, our corrupt ultra right Supreme Court blocked this. It’s almost like the United States created the cartel problem that they are trying to now “fix” mmmmm wonder why because it’s not to help the people or spread freedom. It’s always something sinister.

What do we do about the guns already there?

Are you seriously trying to argue that if it wasn't for the US supplying them, then the cartels wouldn't have firearms? Please answer yes or no so anyone with a brain knows how seriously you should be taken.

[-] tb_@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

They'd certainly have fewer.

With the same success they used to stop the taliban?

[-] zaugofficial@lemmings.world 1 points 1 day ago

If you think they are the same, then I can't help you.

Good job fitting in with everyone else. Mission accomplished.

So you're saying the mexican people are pussies. Remember the Alamo?

What was all this about “focusing on America first”?

[-] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

I believe their argument is that the cartels are harming america and so attacking them is inline with "america first"

[-] PeacefulForest@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

With that logic, Mexico, Canada, Greenland and Venezuela all have a right to come into the U.S. and “intervene” this administration because it’s harmful to their countries.

I don’t think MAGA would be too happy about that.

Any other countries I’m missing?

[-] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

oh absolutely, but magats don't understand double standards

[-] zaugofficial@lemmings.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Well, you'd be wrong about that.

The cartels are harming Mexico, and we should be helping to protect innocent Mexicans because that's the decent thing to do.

You guys are clearly too far gone and are just trying to fit in with each other. It's pretty disgusting and sad, but I'm glad I've learned not to take you people seriously on anything.

[-] PeacefulForest@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)
  1. All I hear from the right is how we should take care of America first.
  2. We can’t protect any other country if we can’t protect our own, and clearly this administration has only terrorized its citizens, so we’re pretty damn far off from helping others.
  3. Everything you’ve said here so far is disgusting and sad
[-] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

~~what am I wrong about?~~ who is "you people"? ~~did you respond to the wrong person?~~

*oh, you're the OP, got it.

[-] Natanael@infosec.pub 17 points 1 day ago

USA is explicitly NOT targeting cartels, but civilians, so no they shouldn't
